‘The biggest deal since Klinsmann’
by Matthew Harris on December 14, 2011
Quiet rumours about a Tottenham move for Manchester City’s Carlos
Tevez have been appearing in the press since the start of the season and
while there was a brief acceleration in the stories after the
Argentinean’s alleged refusal to come on as sub in Munich, most Spurs
fans have rightly ignored them.
However it’s difficult to ignore the reports this morning that are
splashed over the Daily Mail that suggest a £20m offer is imminent.
The story quotes a ‘source’ at Tottenham who says,
‘People at Tottenham reckon a deal like this could be bigger than anything since they signed Jurgen Klinsmann.
‘There’s definite interest. The big stumbling block could be whether
or not City are prepared to do business with a team now regarded as one
of their rivals for the title.’
All of these stories seem to gloss over the small matter of Tevez’
£200,000 a week wages and as such, can this just be filed as a
non-starter?
In the last week there have been stories connecting the club with
Kaka, a permanent move for Adebayor and now the Tevez link. Are Spurs
really about to move to the next level with wages of this kind?
