Good write up in the Indy today from ex referee Alan Willey

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/sympathy-for-referee-in-tackle-row-6288950.html

"In the split second of a challenge, referees are asked to apply seven key criteria to their decision, including whether there is malice intended, the speed and intensity of the challenge, the distance travelled, the direction of the tackler's feet and whether he uses his studs. All these are regarded as a means to arriving at a decision as to whether excessive force was used and a red card is necessary."

Nic, I'm not buying into the theory that referee Mason did not see Johnson's tackle, I just think its down to individual interpretation and here is where the game comes unstuck . The tackle is an integral part of the game and if officialdom cannot agree to it's boundaries then we're in trouble ..

Wolves away to the your lot , Lampard at Wolves and the two at the Eithad all had the tackler lunge off the ground with both feet, studs showing and all should be dealt with in the same way as far as I'm concerned with red cards .

My mate Foy is at it again, Nic, dont care about camera angles or the ref only gets a second to make a decision, he made several glaring mistakes when we played Stoke at theres and yesterday he allows Walters to bundle Boltons keeper into the net when he had two hands on the ball, him and Atkinson should not be officating in the prem.

That was diabolical what Walters did. Do we really want to go back to the days when the Centre forward bundled Keeper and ball over the line to get a goal? Foy is useless.

Didn't see the incident myself but if what you say is right then Foy made an error he made an error that resulted in a team losing their PL status

Could any other PL referee have made the same decision ? Would Foy have made the se decision if he had the opportunity to see it again ?

Seems to me a glaring unanswerable irrefutable proof that the video referee is required

Was it a player called Walters or a player called Stanley Matthews or maybe Nat Lofthouse Dave ? I screamed that is so 1950's when I saw the incident on MOTD last night. I felt sorry for the 'keeper ( I actually rate Bogdan highly), Bolton & football in general. Awful decision . . . . . .

Watched the Walters incident - I would not give it more than 60/40 that a referee is going to give a foul
Bogdan letting the ball go quite so easily was soft

I would also add the Crouch penalty went into the 40/60 category

They may make the odd mistake Nic, but Foy and Atkinson are serial blunderers.

If there was a point in ranting - along the lines of " that is the worst decision I have ever seen in professional football - he should never referee in the top flight again" I might keep it up

Truth is it is a waste of time and air

It is a disgrace that serious errors occur in professional football matches when - more or less- within 20 seconds of replays the correct decision would be made
