    Sez it all about them . . . . .

Chelsea have released a statement about the
behaviour of some of their supporters at Wembley, who failed to respect
the minute's silence in memory of the 96 victims of the Hillsborough
disaster and Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini, who collapsed and
died after suffering a heart attack during a Serie B game on Saturday.

It reads: "Chelsea Football Club is extremely disappointed
that a very small minority of fans embarrassed the club today by not
honouring the moment's silence before kick-off."Chelsea FC believes all moments of respect should be
honoured and today we pay our full respects to all those that suffered
as a result of the Hillsborough disaster 23 years ago."

It may only be me - but I am getting a bit aggravated by every single football match I ever attend or watch on the box preceded by a minute of silence, black arm bands, solemn commentaries

Do Liverpool refuse to play on the anniversary of Heysel when their supporters were responsible for he death of 40 fans ? Do Manyoo refuse to play on the Muinch date ? Bradford on their day of fire slaughter ?

    Enough

Nice to see the milk of human kindness is still flowing through your veins Nic ! Remember the absolute respect & decorum Spurs fan showed for Rocastle ? Maybe these small moments of remeberence & tribute are footballs last way of showing the game hasn't quite lost touch with reality ? Who knows but I'm sure others will enlighten me . . . . .

I agree Vis. If Liverpool don't want to play on the anniversary of Hillsborough that's up to them. As for Heysel my understanding of that is that it was all about Liverpool and Juventus firms having a barney. Juventus Ultras were just as much to blame television reports showed later. They were filmed throwing rocks at Liverpool supporters. One was even seen firing a gun.

I have not the slightest problem in recognising and respecting the death or deaths that are football related Vis and it was a matter of great credit to Spuds that your fans gave Rocky the moment he deserved

The question I was asking was related to how often this ceremony happens ? Week in - week out at the moment

As I said is there some unique element about Hillsboro that imposes it as a uniquely more tragic event than Bradford or Heysel or Ibrox or, more recently, the slaughter in Eygpt in Port Said for which I recall not a moment of hush at the Emirates

Maybe it's week in, week out at the moment because football & it's community seems to be suffering some pretty bad stuff and some anniversarys at the moment Nic ? As I said this might just be the games last reality check with the rest of hummanity before the game actually eats it-self ? If so, then as a fan, I will happily continue to respect such moments . . . .

So do you think Liverpool should refuse to play on the Heysel anniversary ? Bradford ? The Munich date ? Rangers and Celtic on 2nd Jan ?

I do not see you disrespect an anniversary that you go about your work on the day in question - and nor do you Vis

Just making the point that i/ we do not need to
Have a day of to show our respect of a dead person or persons , or a minutes silence, or an embroidered poppy

We/ I just get on with it

And to be honest I am not remotely interested whether some mob of Chelsea fans join in 23 years later

I think we should all cheer to celebrate on the Queens Birthday myself. How about a round of applause on boxing day when matches are played Hey Nic. Chelski's Scum Supporters 912733

Okies Nic I hear your view point and take it on board. To each their own eh ? It is always refreshing to see the football community stand as 1 and show respect tho'. But thats just my view point . . . . . .

Not p*ssed at all Baz- well mostly but a serious point in there somewhere about the escalation in public demonstrations of grief over the past few years that I do not understand.
How people grieve, how people show their respect has become a matter of public debate, accusation and abuse - and that is just wrong IMO

Maybe it should read " We Scousers appologise that 96 dead means you have to wait a moment longer for your game to kick off" Nic ?

Anyone know if Juventus do all this every May 29 ?
