Thats the beauty of most of our squad now, Parker or Sandro, equally good at holding midfield.
    Walker/Naughton
    Benny/Naughton/Verts
Verts/Caulker/Daws/Gallas and Kaboul to come back
I guess we could player Sig i/o Dembele but would I got a feeling we might have to pay for Holtby or risk losing him, if we do thats or alternate attacking midfielder sorted

Lought, even when his not scoring, Defoes runs do create space for the likes of Dempsey and Bale or even Verts, we just need to go at manure like we did at Old Trafford, one thing is for sure, they wont sit back like QPR/Stoke/Swansea.

I watched United on Sunday and when Liverpool really went at them in the 2nd half they looked very shaky. They will always be a threat with the likes of rip van pay-packet up front but we have a solid defence with a good, steady 'keeper behind them.
The one thing I do want to see is if that disrespectful shite hawk Ole Red Nose keeps gobbing chewing gum on the hallowed ground of The Lane then the Head Groundsman demands he clear up . . . . .

Same again last night when Wet Spam went at them they did look shaky. Get Lennon and Bale running at them stop their wing backs getting forward and above all don't give them too much respect like we have in the past.

Agree Seebee. Utd look shaky when being forced deep. I reckon AVB will push high and will then look to soak up pressure should we go in front . . . . . .

How about we put Bale in central position behind Defoe or Dempsey to run off, Carrick's shoulder towards their two central defenders . Bale can do this like he did up there.

I think with Lloris in goal and no Gallas in defence we've been able to withstand pressure unlike earlier in the season as we can push forward and feel more comfortable doing so . But we do know if we're winning this game they will throw the lot at us as they always do whoever they're playing. They're the ultimate test in english football

vertonghen is the man for this game. i would give him the job of man marking rvp, forget his going forward in this match, stay tight as f*ck to rvp the whole game, where he goes jan goes. the midfield can run their a*ses off cutting out the supply to rvp and not letting them pass it about. they will get frustrated and we can pounce on any mistakes. i know were at home and some want to see us take it to them attacking but i think it will be fatal and fergie will be expecting just that and exploit it, and we will be punished. hope avb uses some tactical sense and realises this. it might be boring but 3 points will be great and the double over them immence in confidence boost for us.just my opinion, what you all think ?

    TEAM NEWS

Scott Parker is likely to start for Tottenham in place of Sandro, who is out for the remainder of the season following knee surgery.

Forward Emmanuel Adebayor has departed for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Manchester United winger Ashley Young remains out with a knee injury but his absence is off-set by Nani's return.

Jonny Evans is still nursing a hamstring problem, so Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic will continue in central defence.
    MATCH PREVIEW

It was the final game of the 2000-01 season when Manchester United last lost at White Hart Lane in the league. After the defeat, Sir Alex Ferguson reiterated his decision to leave the club by the end of the following campaign. He's still there and another win at Spurs would take him a significant step towards a 13th Premier League title.

This is one of the hardest games United have left to play. Tottenham are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions. They ended their 27-match winless run against United at Old Trafford in September and know that if they are to be regarded as genuine title challengers they need to beat the top six sides more regularly. They've already lost against Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Manchester City this season.

Defensively, they're tighter under Andre Villas-Boas. Hugo Lloris has conceded just 11 goals in 12 league games - five of them at the Emirates! Gareth Bale can destroy any full-back. Jermain Defoe will poach goals, although they've been hard to come by for him in recent weeks. Mousa Dembele is deceptively creative. Scott Parker's return to fitness will provide extra steel.
They have struggled to beat teams who 'park the bus' at the Lane, but this will be a more open affair. United simply don't do defensive football.

So it'll come down to who has the greatest firepower. United must start as favourites. Rooney has a good record against Spurs, with seven goals against them. Robin van Persie scored five in north London derbies.

Michael Carrick is the best English-born passing midfielder in the Premier League this season and he'll relish returning to his old club. His creativity could be crucial. So could the Ferdinand/Vidic centre-back partnership prove in coming weeks if they can both stay fit. They've only played together in eight league games over the last 17 months. United have won seven and drawn one of them.

So often, Sir Alex has dredged up a victory from somewhere at Tottenham. If he can do so again, he may have a rueful smile thinking back to that "quit" threat all those years ago. But he knows how tough this will be. It's a genuine indicator game for both clubs.
    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

Tottenham beat Manchester United for the first time in 27 attempts in September's reverse fixture, ending their 23-year wait for a victory at Old Trafford with a 3-2 league win. United had won 20 and drawn six of the previous 26 meetings in all competitions.
Spurs last won this fixture at White Hart Lane in May 2001, when Willem Korsten scored twice in a 3-1 Premier League victory. United veterans Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes both started that match, the latter scoring.
Tottenham have not won this fixture home and away in the same season since 1989-90.

    Tottenham

Spurs are unbeaten in their last six league matches, equalling their longest run without defeat under Andre Villas-Boas. They have won seven and lost only one of their last 10 league fixtures.
They have won seven and drawn one of their eight home matches in all competitions since a 1-0 defeat by Wigan at White Hart Lane.
The Lillywhites have only conceded seven first-half goals - fewer than any other Premier League club.
Tottenham have dropped 16 points from winning positions, the fourth worst record in the division ahead of the weekend matches.
Fourteen-goal leading scorer Jermain Defoe has only scored once in his last seven appearances.
Aaron Lennon could make his 200th career league start.

    Manchester United

The league leaders now have 55 points from 22 Premier League matches, the club's highest-ever tally at this stage of a top-flight season. Jose Mourinho's 2005-06 Chelsea team are the only side in the Premier League era to fare better, having gained 61 points from their first 22 games.
United's record of 18 wins from the opening 22 games has only been matched or bettered on four occasions: Preston (18 wins) in 1888-89, Sunderland (19 wins) in 1891-92, Tottenham (19 wins) in 1960-61 and Chelsea (20 wins) in 2005-06.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side have won nine of their last 10 league games, earning 28 points out of 30.
They have won eight league matches from losing positions, recovering an unrivalled 24 points.
They have the most different scorers in the Premier League this season (16).
However, they have conceded 29 goals - more than nine other sides. The most goals they have conceded in a full Premier League season is 45 in the 1999-2000 title-winning campaign.
Robin van Persie has scored 65 goals in 77 league appearances since January 2011, and nine in his last nine league games. United have won all 14 league matches in which van Persie has scored.
Ryan Giggs awaits his 650th league appearance for Manchester United.

Shear I would take 3 points from this game anyway. 1 lucky breakaway goal and nothing but pressure as long as we win. Seeing that Wavy Lips & Vidic look like the centre of defence for Utd so the pace and movement of Defoe, Lennon & Bale will be vital. I see your idea of caution but Utd have looked very wobbly when teams go at them. Parker needs to be at his best patrolling just in front of the defence then releasing the front man early to give us the chance to test Ferdinands ever decreasing lack of movement (also Vidic doesn't look as mobile since his long injury lay-off). LOL have I put the kiss of death on things now? Pace & movement and a pressing game are key for me . . . ..

    1436:
PITCH INSPECTION - Tottenham v Man Utd (1600 GMT)

Mike Riley, the general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials, told PremierLeague.com: "There are two main considerations to make when conducting a pitch inspection: player safety and the match as a spectacle.

"A referee has to consider whether the playing conditions threaten the well-being of the players and whether they compromise the match as a spectacle for the fans."

Tottenham v Man Utd (1600 GMT)

Spurs make three changes from the side that were held 0-0 by QPR, with Scott Parker fit to make his first Premier League start of the season and Steven Caulker and Clint Dempsey recalled to the side in place of Jan Vertonghen, who drops to the bench, Emmanuel Adebayor, who is away on African Cup of Nations duty and the injured Sandro.

Sir Alex Ferguson makes just one change from last Sunday's Premier League victory over Liverpool, with Phil Jones coming into the Manchester United side in place of Ashley Young.

Robin Van Persie and Danny Welbeck are partnered in attack, with Shinji Kagawa lurking in behind. Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic continue at the heart of the defence.
