Danny Rose has taken a swipe at Harry Redknapp by suggesting he was unfairly treated when the Queens Park Rangers manager was in charge at Tottenham.

The left back has been Andre Villas-Boas’s preferred choice ahead of Benoit Assou-Ekotto in pre-season and looks set to get the opportunity to prove himself when they kick off their season at Crystal Palace next weekend.

But, following Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Espanyol in a friendly on Saturday, Rose revealed he has had a frustrating time at the club.

He said: ‘In the past I’ve never been able to compete fairly with Benoit, and Benoit’s been outstanding for the last three or four years. But now we’ve got a manager who treats people fairly and he’s not afraid to drop people if you’re not performing, so I hope that can work well for me this season.

‘I train hard and every game I played I feel I’ve worked hard, so I hope that can stand me in good stead for Palace next week.

It’s not nice when you train hard every day and people have been allowed to sack training off and still be in the starting 11.

'Obviously I know Spurs have been in the top four or five clubs for the last five seasons or so, so I know it’s hard for anyone to break through. But at the same time it is frustrating. It’s great that now the gaffer is not afraid to drop people if you’re not performing or training hard enough.’

Rose impressed while on loan at Sunderland last season and their manager Paolo Di Canio was keen to keep him.

I read this item Lought. We all knew that Harry had his favourites and he proved that time and again by keeping Pav on the bench when the strikers were not scoring. I know there are people that did not rate Pav but lets be honest he was no worse than those that were under performing game after game, anyway water under the bridge now. Yes, AVB does seem to be giving players a chance to prove themselves, I rate him very much and hope that he himself gets the opportunity to prove that he can be one of the best managers we have had.

Rose needs to continue to learn the ancient art of tackling. Some of his challenges seem a touch rash at times. Fair player in the making . . . .

He will get better but he's no defender.

I remember that great 30 yard goal he scored against the Arse at the lane a couple of seasons ago. He was playing in mid field that day.
