He never had the pleasure of managing Jan Vertonghen, but he has seen enough from him from afar to be impressed.
Writing in his column for The Sun on Sunday, Redknapp comments that the Belgian would be the ideal player to fill a gap at Manchester City.
"The defence is not so solid and the guy who could put that right at a stroke is Jan Vertonghen.
"The deal to take him to Spurs was just being finalised when I left, and I think he's one of the best defenders in world football.
"The way he brings the ball out of defence makes him perfect for City. He would probably cost around £40 million, but an all-Belgian central defensive duo of Vertonghen and Vincent Kompany could prove priceless."
There's no mistaking that Redknapp's correct that Vertonghen could hugely improve Manchester City's defensive depth, but they likely missed their opportunity to snap him up last summer.
Voted into last season's Premier League Team of the Season by his fellow professionals, the defender is one of Tottenham's most reliable players, and a cornerstone for them to build their future around.
Even a bid of £40 million would be one Tottenham fans would hope their board would not accept... but given Levy's recent track record, it's not something you would bet your house on.
What do you make of Redknapp's comments on Vertonghen?
