Date: 11th November 2011 at 7:34 pm |Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move to sign Juventus striker Amauri in January, according to reports coming out of Italy.
Metro reported this week that Controcampo, an
Italian Football talk show, understood that an agreement has been struck
between Juventus and Tottenham for Amauri to move to England, where he
will reportedly pocket around £35,000-a-week.
Amauri, a Brazilian-born Italian international, has become surplus to
requirements at Juventus and hasn’t played a single minute this season
under new manager Antonio Conte. The striker spent the latter part of last season on loan at Parma.
With Roman Pavlyuchenko likely to depart White Hart Lane in January, it appears that Harry Redknapp is already prepared to compensate for the potential loss of the Russian by signing Amauri.
Spurs have apparently beaten off interest from several Italian clubs in order to sign the 31 year-old striker. Amauri’s agent, Ernesto Bronzetti, said: ”The player is close to signing for an English club.”
”Genoa want him too, as do Palermo,
but he would prefer to go to Spain or England. Of course, if a top
Italian club were to make an offer, then it would be difficult to say
no, and Napoli are one of them.”
Amauri signed for Juventus in 2008 in a deal worth around £20 million
from Palermo, but despite a good first season where he scored 14 goals,
his form dropped dramatically the following year as he only managed 7
goals.
The striker has never had a reputation for being a prolific
goalscorer, so Spurs fans shouldn’t expect 20 goals a season from him.
But what he does possess is a dangerous aerial threat, scoring with
thumping headers became a trademark for Amauri in Italy.
