    Managers Empty Managers

Post by Boltjean Tue Nov 19 2013, 06:58

I sense that all is not well between the supporters and AVB. They are not happy with our style of play, lack of goals and excitement etc. Well perhaps we should change the manager, lets face it he has been at the club since 2012. AVB is our 17th manager since 1974. But did you know that six of those lasted just one year and one not even that, Santini resigned after about a dozen games. Three lasted approx two years, three approx three years, two approx four years, and one Keith Burkinshaw nearly eight years. It makes you feel so proud doesn't it. In that time, United have had five and Arsenal five. Now it does not need a rocket scientist to work out why United and the Arsenal have had the success they have had over the years compared to us, sure the Arsenal have not won the Champions League, but they have been in with a shout season after season finishing in the top four. Well I want some of that and I know we will not get it by keep changing managers. Oh, and now Klingsmann is being linked to Spurs if AVB does not get us into the Champions League, paper talk I know, but not the kind of talk the team and manager want to hear. So, in a nutshell, lets give AVB the chance he deserves to bring glory to Spurs, it may not look nice at the moment but in the end I am sure we will see some quality football, but the fans have to be patient.

No time for patience?, you can not tell me that any supporter or chairman in there right state of mind expects a manager to deliver trophies after one or two seasons, because if they do then they are going to have a hell of a wait. As I stated, six managers lasted one year, and one a dozen games, now if this is what the chairman and supporters are prepared to put up with then they are a bunch of hypocrites. Five of those sacked after one year and Santini resigning after a dozen games have been since 1990, that is out of eleven managers we have had in that time. So what are we looking at, 23 years?, an average of two years a manager. I feel sorry for managers today, it is not just the chairman they have to answer to but supporters who get on there back after a season or two while they are trying to build a team that will bring trophies to the club, it's not just the chairman who needs to stand by the manager but the so called supporters who would not give a damn if AVB was sacked tomorrow. He is the only manager in the history of this club that after 11 games has only conceded just 6 goals, and I agree with Baz, you have to build from the back, it's no good having an attack that scores a hat full of goals when the defence are leaking them left right and centre.

"your only good as your last game " most famous words in football. so how long do you wait 1 2 3 4 5 6 yrs without a trophy ? you think arsenal fans going wait yrs till they win out ? not that im assed but hypothetical question. is it that you get labelled a gloryhunter club like city , chavs , if you want instant success ? real madrid dont do too bad with a mediocre defence .

i dont mind new manager after 3yrs if no trophies why keep longer if club not progressing.

Change for changes sake. The mantra of the modern world. Not just football but society in general. If it ain't broke fix it any way because that appeases the disgruntled. Attention spans have become short, hence the popularuty of short term fads all the time & the culture of the quick fix (even if the quick fix dosen't fix the original problem. Just throw another quick fix at it!). Paitence is a virtue that brings it's own rewards the same as continuity . . . . .

If it takes 3 years so be it, but I do have the common sense not to expect a trophy after a season, even two, although it would be a bonus. What I would like to know LLR is how many managers do you know of that have delivered a trophy in there first season at a club, or even two seasons?, not many if any I would think.

im not calling for avb to be sacked but im not happy with his style of play. it is very dull and we have loads of possession in midfield and yet hardly any penetration up front. its not working and soldado needs help up there. things have changed now bale has gone and we don't have a player prepared to run at them from midfield and launch a shot which if parried or blocked by a defender soldado can pounce on. townsend maybe can but hes no bale yet. tippy tappy football all across midfield with no shots or penetrating runs will not get us the points we need to challenge. other teams know what our set up is week in week out and set up to nullify us. avb is paid a lot of dough to work out other options to beat these teams that come for a draw and maybe hit us on the break so to carry on like this is very disappointing. yeah we have injurys but also a lot of players. try something else, give us all a surprise. defence is pretty much sorted so use the talent a bit more. I don't want to harp back to redknapp days but some of the play then was breathtaking, I know bales gone as well but maybe we were a one player team after all ?

Just a couple of stats. I did not know this but no ENGLISH manager has ever won the Premiership title. No wonder, out of the 2013-14 20 Premiership sides, there are only 4 Englishmen managing a Premiership side, Millen, caretaker of Palace, Bruce, Hull City, Hughton, Norwich, and Allardyce, West Ham.

You could have 2 first season managers winning something or at least finishing above us this season, maybe top 4.
Martinez at Everton and the foreign guy at Southampton and niether of them have had £110 mil spent on the team in fact Everton have really spent nothing, Lukaku is on loan.

Both teams are playing well and the managers are getting the best out of their players. That's what AVB has to do.

Plan A is not working you can't finiish in the top four if you don't score goals. The thing is does AVB have a plan B?

Or another question did we buy the right players?

we outplayed everton for most of the game.

the southamton guy is doing a great job but most teams do well first half of the season then they slide down the table.

Patience, patience, patience. It wasn't until his 3rd season that Billy Nic won anything and that was the double. His first season in charge we finished 18th. No 3 down or 3 promoted in those days but the board stuck with him and it's a good job they did. I think AVB is doing it right. No, it's not pretty but we needed to stem the goals against and for the most part he has done that. Personally as I have said before I couldn't give a fuck if we won 1-0 nil every game and it came from a penalty. We needed to tighten the defence and that is what he has done. Once he is satisfied with that, then I believe we will see him turn his attention to attack. Football like a lot of sports is built on a firm foundation. That foundation is a strong fortress type defence and that is what he is doing.
