Tottenham Hotspur are expected to lodge an official complaint to the FA against Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam.

The North London outfit learned on Monday that Paulinho will miss up to four weeks of action with ligament damage to his right ankle, after colliding with Adam during their 3-0 win over Stoke on Sunday.

The Potters man was booed when coming on as a second-half substitute at White Hart Lane, having previously clashed with Gareth Bale during his time at Tottenham.

He then appeared to leave his leg in during a challenge against the Brazilian, which forced the Tottenham player to hobble off unable to continue, although manager Tim Sherwood played down the severity of the injury at the time.

Tottenham have since reviewed footage of the incident and, according to The Times, they may question whether Adam was deliberately targeting one of their players when they write to English football's governing body.

Adam tweeted on Tuesday: "Just for the record and to the people tweeting me abuse saying so, I don't and never have had anything against @SpursOfficial. And I would never intend to injure a fellow professional."

Of course you wouldn't Charlie. You just like to slow down players who are so much better than you . . . . .

Charlie Adam will not be charged by the FA for the tackle on Paulinho which has ruled the Brazilian out for a month with damaged ankle ligaments.

Referee Kevin Friend did not see the incident at the time and it has been reviewed by the FA's disciplinary panel, who examined the video evidence and decided it was not worthy of a red card.

There will be no further action, although this may not deter Tottenham from their plan to write to the FA about Adam's tackling, which has left its mark four times on Spurs players in less than three years.
