Exactly what Sherwood has done to earn such disdain, I'm not sure. For some, it's childhood links with ars*nal; for others, apparently misdirected anger aimed at Levy. The many alleged reasons make the real one difficult to pin down, but I'm going to focus on comparisons with Harry Redknapp. It's a particularly odd choice of stick for a beating given Redknapp's status as our most successful Premier League manager. Indeed, it remains somewhat unclear why he was dismissed, but insofar as on-field reasons go, his reluctance to embrace youth was ostensibly an issue. Sherwood does not hold the same reservations. Already he has turned Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Kane into important first-team players, and more look set to follow. If he could add Redknapp's achievements, he would be something like the perfect manager.

So how is he doing on that front? Well, of his 19 league games in charge, he has won 11, drawn 3 and lost 5, with a goal difference of plus 8 (our goal difference when he took over was minus 6). That gives him a win ratio of 57.9% – the highest of any Tottenham manager in the Premier League – and an average of 1.89 points per game, matching the Gareth Bale-assisted rate at which André Villas-Boas accumulated points to set a Spurs record of 72. All in his first job as a head coach, with an entirely inherited squad and no pre-season. By any measure, that's remarkable. He should be receiving plaudits. Instead, as with Redknapp, the focus is on his supposed tactical naivety (in Redknapp's case, a charge largely dismissed by Jonathan Wilson) and innocuous comments to the press. What do we actually want our managers to be judged on?

Supporting a club of relatively limited means, we accept truly world-class players are beyond our grasp and that our best bet is to develop potential. When we do spend big, it's on players who are fashionable rather than proven over time (Sergei Rebrov, Darren Bent, David Bentley, Roberto Soldado), and almost invariably we get our fingers burnt. The situation is similar when it comes to managers (Ramos, Villas-Boas), yet in that case, fans are less inclined to favour the prudent approach. Today alone, I have seen Mauricio Pochettino, Frank de Boer, Thomas Tuchel and Murat Yakin mooted as possible successors to Tim Sherwood. All fashionable; all unproven. Why not stick with the man who's already doing a decent job? Why not nurture him and see how good he can be? Sometimes the devil you know is better than the one most people don't.

I like his desire even at times he loses it. but hes tactically inept . hes done his best with the tools he as which aint enough to take us forward.

!9 games in charge overall and on paper yes the record is good but how many teams in the top half of the league. I think its 4 and the record against them is lost 4 with 1 goal scored and 14 against. Has got us knocked out of three cup competitions in double quick time having not won a cup game at all.
Agreed he has little tactical nous his mouth is quicker than his brain as are his actions. Some may like to see him lose it but reactions like that should be left to the specious one and all the disrepute he brings upon Chelsea. I don't like the way he criticises in public most of that should be left in the dressing room and not aired in public. Finally he constantly contradicts himself with statements of rubbish

I just don't know who I want as manager. I am now fed up with all this, a change of manager nearly every season, players wanting to leave because we do not reach the Champions League, after all these years and the amount of money invested in players you would think we would be in the top four every season, but no, Levy is investing to much money in average players and also does not give a manager time to build for the clubs future. Supporters are saying bring back Hoddle, Spurs through and through, I agree he is, but in his last term as manager in the 2001-02 season we finished 9th and in the 2002-03 season 10th, so I would not be that excited or feel that optimistic should he return. As for Moyes, no thank you, a manager with Preston from 1998 until 2002, Everton 2002-13 and United 2013-14. Sixteen years a manager and all he has to show for it is a Division Two title with Preston and FA Cup runners up with Everton. I honestly don't know why the Everton supporters were so upset when he left for United. To late now but I wish we had gone with Rogers or Martinez but would they have got out of our squad what they have got out of the Liverpool and Everton squads?, I do not think they would have, ours does not seem to show the same passion. So, it looks as though I would be in favour of giving Sherwood more time, perhaps up to November 2015 if not longer, just to see if he can turn our squad of players into challengers for a top four finish or higher in the 2015-16 season.

i would rather tim stays then david moyes take over.

plus your right about hoddle. we really was poor under him. i remember losign 4 0 at home to bolton under him.

Should have put November 2014 not 2015. I was sorry to see AVB go. I do not want Moyes but feel sorry for him the way he found out he had been sacked, after everyone else knew, but then, we have a gutless chairman who did the same with Jol, everyone new he had been sacked before he did. I do wonder how long Moyes would last at Spurs under Levy, then again I do wonder how long any manager would last. It seems to be a case of if a manager does not get us into the top four in his first season they are out the door.

I'm with you Vis on Ancellote. I think he would make a great manager. No crackpot ideas, firm with players and the experience at all levels to get us back on track.

I also wanted him after Redknapp but we got AVB.


I suppose in time Sherwood might make a good manager but I doubt it. He has a lot to say but not a lot else in my opinion. He's won a few games I know but they are teams we are expected to beat with the squad we have and I haven't seen anything that says he has the ability to take us forward. I also think he's another that has favourites which can be a big problem for team moral as it showed with AVB and Jol when he was here and at Fulham.

The trouble is if Ancellotie leaves Real then there wont be a shortage of clubs in Europe wanting him. Possibly Utd and if he had a choice of them or us I know who he would choose.

I think we are obsessed with foreign managers why not let Tim finish the remaining part of his contract, I am sure he has learned a lot.

Definitely I do not want Moyes near our team we do not want left overs

My other choice would be Glen Hoddle I am sure he he is much wiser now
