Ossie leads the legends |
06 April 2010 |
Ossie Ardiles will manage a Spurs veterans' side in
the London Legends Cup at Upton Park on May 30.Our lads will
be up against Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham in the newly-launched
tournament that will seek to follow the success of 20:20 cricket and
masters tennis. The format will be 11-a-side but with just 20
minutes each way plus unlimited ‘roll on, roll off' substitutions.Under
the banner Football40, it is planned to hold Masters Home
internationals, games between England, Italy, Brazil and Argentina plus
an eight-team legends World Cup in South Africa later in the year.Ossie's
Spurs team mate Glenn Hoddle is F40's technical director and will also
manage the England side. The concept is to provide a serious yet fun
environment for over 35s with the unlimited subs rule helping on the
fitness side."The fact that a player can be substituted and then
go back on later means that players can perform at their maximum for
short periods," explained Glenn, pictured at the launch at Upton Park on
Tuesday. "They know that they can't play at their peak for 90 minutes
but this format means they can still entertain and have a real go."The
provisional Spurs squad includes Gary Mabbutt, Clive Allen, Graham
Roberts, Paul Miller, Colin Calderwood, Micky Hazard, John Pratt, Steve
Sedgley, Paul Allen, Ricky Villa, Garry Brooke, Mark Falco and Tony
Galvin.
5 up front then Ossie?
