Birmingham City have agreed a £7 million fee with Tottenham for their Irish international striker Robbie Keane, according to reports.

After falling out of favour at Spurs over the last year, Keane is widely expected to leave White Hart Lane this month and Sky Sports understands that the striker will undergo a medical at St Andrews in the next 24 hours.

You know what will happen, he will go there say Birmingham is 3rd favourite team off alltime and was his boyhood club after liverpool and spurs , but anyway he will go there and probably score sh*t loads , i honestly think when he left for liverpool he never for one minute thought he was coming back, he was happy to draw a wage and sit on the bench, he should never had come back

Robbie Keane's move to Birmingham City breaks down as West Ham emerge as new favourites to sign Tottenham striker

Birmingham City's move for Tottenham striker Robbie Keane has broken down after he told them he did not want to move to the Midlands, Goal.com UK can reveal.

West Ham are back in pole position for the Republic of Ireland captain and have re-opened talks with Spurs, who are demanding the Hammers match the £7 million fee agreed with Birmingham.

Keane's representatives were given permission to hold talks with Birmingham on Thursday after the Blues made an official approach to Tottenham on Wednesday.

But it quickly emerged that the 30-year-old was not enthusiastic about the switch, particularly as he was reluctant to move from his family home in Hertfordshire. Birmingham first-team coach Peter Grant admitted on Thursday morning that there were "a lot of bridges to be crossed" for any deal to be completed and even mentioned Keane's reluctance to leave London.

West Ham, the bottom club in the Premier League, held talks with Keane before the New Year but baulked at Spurs' £8m asking price for the forward.

They are now set to make another move and are ready to pay £7m and match Keane's current £65,000-a-week salary over the duration of a three-and-a-half-year contract.
