Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their interest in Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric.

The
News of the World claims United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has
approached Spurs and offering former White Hart Lane favourite Dimitar
Berbatov in a swap deal.

Chelsea are also believed to ready to
challenge United should Spurs give the green light to interested parties
but the departure of boss Carlo Ancelotti may see the Blues changing
tack..

In any event, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has already
declared the Croatian is not for sale, but it is often the case that
money talks if it is substantial enough.

But thats how ferguson works, gently rolls off a players name during an interview attaching no importance to it apparently, but then the players head is turned.

I dont want berbatov back, he treated the club disgracefully, as bad as the bloke who chucked and stamped on the shirt and who harry couldnt play because of fan power.

He had a great first season for us, and well done to him, put himself in the shop window which i suppose was his aim, and then spent the best part of his second season with body language that said " i,m too good for this club "
