    TEAM NEWS
Tottenham's new loan signing Emmanuel Adebayor is ineligible to make his debut against his parent club Manchester City.

Manager Harry Redknapp has said that want-away midfielder Luka Modric will be involved.

Manchester City's new signing Samir Nasri is set to make his debut, leaving manager Roberto Mancini with a welcome selection headache.

He has a virtually fully fit squad to pick from with only Nigel de Jong out.

    MATCH PREVIEW
The season may only be at the hors d'oeuvres stage. But this could be a veritable feast of football.

Some of City's play at Bolton was sumptuous. David Silva was beguiling. He ghosts away from markers, drifting in from wide positions to control so much of their tempo, and could be one of the stars of the season if he keeps up his current form. What a difference a few months have made to Edin Dzeko too; £27 million looked like a waste of money last season, but now he has scored five goals in five games.

City are looking for a sixth top-flight win on the spin for the first time since February 1978. This is the sort of game that will signpost their title credentials. Spurs have won 11 of the last 14 league encounters between the sides, so if City win even their most dubious fan may start to believe this could be their year.

Two seasons ago Tottenham pipped City for the last Champions League slot. Now Roberto Mancini's men are being talked about as genuine title challengers, with Spurs still stuck in the same slog for a top-four place.

Tottenham will be stung by that sort of comparison. Up until injuries exposed the squad's strength last season they played some great stuff.

Make no mistake, they can win this one. It'll be a real test of City's steel and resolve. I'll go for Tottenham to hit back and take the points, with a set-piece goal settling what should be a really tasty Sunday lunch-time banquet.

    MATCH FACTS
    Head-to-head

Tottenham have won 19 Premier League matches against Manchester City. Only Arsenal, with 20, have beaten City on more occasions.
Spurs have beaten City in 11 out of their last 14 matches in the league, but lost their last encounter 1-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium in May.
Eight of the last 13 Premier League matches between the sides have ended 2-1.
Want-away striker Carlos Tevez scored more league goals (21) last season than Tottenham strikers Jermain Defoe (4), Peter Crouch (4), Roman Pavlyuchenko (9) and Robbie Keane (0) combined.
    Tottenham

Spurs lost just one league match at home last season, a record bettered by only Manchester United. However, they drew nine games at White Hart Lane, which was the highest tally in the league.
Spurs won just three of their final 12 league games last season.
They have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine top-flight matches.
They scored 15 goals from outside the box last season, four more than any other side.
On Monday, Brad Friedel recorded his 267th consecutive Premier League appearance. He last missed a game in May 2004.
According to Opta stats, since 2008-09 Spurs have won 43% of their league games when want-away midfielder Luka Modric has been playing, versus 52% without him.
    Manchester City

City have won seven of their last eight league matches.
They have gone 18 league and cup games without a draw (excludes Community Shield).
Joe Hart kept 18 clean sheets last season, the highest tally in the division.
They have won five games in a row for only the second time in the Premier League.
Manchester City have conceded at least two goals in six of their last eight Premier League away games.

"I'll go for Tottenham to hit back and take the points, with a set-piece goal settling what should be a really tasty Sunday lunch-time banquet."

Its getting to the point arnie where you cant voice an opinion about fck all without it coming under someones previous title.
I want posters to know we will be fcked in this game, because of vdv,s continuing influence, and modric will let us down with a bad performance to let us all know how he feels , that he isnt earning half a million every two weeks at chelsea, not because of a million poxy stats that stand for nothing when the eleven men of spurs take on the billionaires of man city.
Whatever happened to individual opinions without it falling under a certain category of titles.?

Sorry arnie but i aint gonna sit and read through every fcking post to make sure i have the right zone.

after everygame baz and co moan how rubbish crouch and defoe and lennon are but now they all great again and pav the bad one because he didnt do much during a dead rubber game,

they not mention huddlestone who was even worse thinking doing hollywood balles from 1 side of the pitch to the other is all you need to do, pav prob got bored of waitin for a forward ball from hudd,

has hudd been watchin jenas to much latley

iwould rather have a goalscorer on the bench then crouch.

    has defoe ever won anything.

[b]With regards to this 'VDV is a problem' rant that you guys have now gotten your teeth into, well I'll add my two penn'orth here .......................

    You're talking tosh! affraid

VDV is World class. Every player in the team, from the goalkeeper to the midfield, has adapted to him being in the team.

    All except the Strikers.

Everyone on the board, on every board for that matter, agrees that our strikers vary from fairly ordinary to outright rubbish.

BUt you two want us to drop a World Class player in order to accomodate our ordinary strikers in an outmoded 4-4-2 that few, if any, title chasing sides ever use.

Conclusion? Our strikers are the problem. They lack the quality to assimilate and adapt to playing an advanced system that incorporates a quality player. All except Crouch that is, who is probably the worst of the bunch when it comes to scoring goals.

Now we have a real top drawer striker in the team, who has played in this advances system and has the technique and ability to adapt on the pitch.

I will happily eat oodles of humble pie should Adabadhairday play alongside VDV and have a mare.

But I do believe I'll be suffering hunger pangs for most of the season.

Food for thought here chaps. VDV actually leads the statistics for goalscoring chances created last season with over 60. 1 or 2 more that Modric. On top of that he was our leading scorer. Now providing over 60 scoring opportunities in 38 league games is, in your opinion, a problem?
Or is the lack of ability to FINISH over 60 goalscoring opportunities, in your opinion, moreso?
