Roman Pavlyuchenko has revealed that he was omitted from Tottenham’s squad at Fulham due to a back injury, which left him “hardly able to walk”.
However, the Russian striker will fly out to Moscow today after declaring himself to be in a “fully fit condition” for national team duty.
“I got this injury during our game against Rubin,” he said. “I felt pain in the back 10 minutes before the break and I asked for a special patch which fixed my back.
“I felt even more pain in the second half and in this condition I wasn’t really useful for my team so I asked to be substituted.
“As I got back to London I was hardly able to walk. The doctors stated that I have neuralgia and advised special physiotherapy and to take medicines.
“But now, I’m much better and will go for Russian national team duty in fully fit condition. I’ll fly to Moscow on Tuesday evening.”
Vedran Corluka has also been selected for Croatia’s Euro 2012 play-off against Turkey, despite Slaven Bilic admitting that it is “still uncertain” whether he will be able to feature.
The 25-year-old has not played since the last international break, when he limped off with a foot injury against Latvia, although he was fit for a place on the bench against Fulham on Sunday.
Luka Modric is likely to play in both legs of the tie against Turkey, but Niko Kranjcar has missed out on the squad as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury - which was also sustained in Croatia’s last match against Latvia.
