It may seem like we pick on The Sun, but…well it’s The Sun, so it deserves it.
From Ian Wright’s column this morning:
“TWO games and no goals show where Arsenal’s problems lie and there are few better finishers around than Jermain Defoe.
I’m sure Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud will get goals for the Gunners once they have picked up the pace of the Premier League.
But Arsenal cannot afford another dodgy start to a campaign after playing catch-up for all of last season.
So if I was Arsene Wenger, I would make an audacious bid for Defoe, whose face doesn’t seem to fit at Spurs and who looks up for a move.
Defoe would be the perfect replacement for Robin van Persie, the penalty box predator to finish off all those half-chances which are currently going begging.”
No offence Ian, but this is just attention-seeking, isn’t it? You would think that everybody has learned the lesson about moving between Arsenal and Tottenham after the Sol Campbell affair – hell will freeze over before Jermain Defoe wears an Arsenal shirt.
As for the bit about him being ‘the perfect replacement for Van Persie’… come on, I know Jermain Defoe is your mate and you talk him up at every possible opportunity, but that’s just a bit silly. Van Persie isn’t a ‘predator’, and Defoe doesn’t share any of the Dutchman’s attributes around the penalty box.
Worryingly, this probably isn’t the most foolish article in The Sun today.
