Lol, Arry to Liverpool? Empty Lol, Arry to Liverpool?

Post by BazSpur Sat Jun 05 2010, 00:15

    The
following story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not
necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club:Lol, Arry to Liverpool? Media-watch

Harry Redknapp is a shock contender to become the next Liverpool
manager - as Kenny Dalglish draws up a shortlist of names for the Kop
    post.
The Tottenham boss is much admired by Dalglish, who has been asked by
the Anfield owners to find out who wants the job of replacing Rafa
    Benitez.
Redknapp's stock has never been higher after leading Spurs to the
Champions League, a triumph that ironically went a long way to getting
    Benitez the sack on Merseyside.
And Redknapp could be tempted away from Tottenham, with friends
revealing he is upset that White Hart Lane supremo Daniel Levy has not
approached him about a longer and improved contract.
However, there is also the lure of Liverpool, who have the kind of
big-name history and glamour that Redknapp has always fancied - and at
the age of 63 he is unlikely to get one of the established giants
    calling for him again.
Redknapp could have to uproot from his Dorset base - a domestic
problem that has stopped him moving north in the past - but a two-year
deal on top money may ease that pain.
And Redknapp can also count on his friendship with Dalglish to help
open the door and make him welcome, with friends claiming he is willing
    to chase the job.
Dalglish is close to Redknapp and was trusted with taking on his son,
Jamie, when he started out on his top-flight football career. The
families have been tight ever since.
Redknapp was rated the top manager in England last season - with
Fulham's Roy Hodgson also picking up a similar award - and Liverpool
could not find a more experienced boss.
The only box he does not tick is his lack of success in Europe, but
he has been at clubs where a run in those competitions has been a
    handicap.
This story has been reproduced from today's media. It
does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

I can't see this happening. Harry likes to be able to get back home easily after a game lol. Why would he go to Liverpool? No money, no CL and probably no Gerrard or Torres.

It never ceases to amaze me how the 'meeja' immediately go on the 'destabilise Tottenham' rampage every time we look like going places. You reaaly don't see it with anyone else, only us.

TBH I would be shocked if Redknapp ever contemplated this. They really have sweet FA to offer Redknapp, regardless of his travelling difficulties, as they are currently a shambles and, IMO, will be out of CL contention for a while, particularly when they lose their star attractions. I say 'when' not 'if' because I really can't see the likes of Torres staying or even Gerrard.

Let's face it, Gerrard was nearly on his toes a few seasons ago when they WERE in the CL and only stayed due to the huge wage and Liverpool promises that they would again challenge for the title.

Instead they have gone backwards and have no finances to buy their way out of this rut. They'd get 60 to 80 mill for the two but who do they buy as replacements for two truly World class players?
Add to this the fact that they are packed full of truly ordinary or ageing players and they don't look that appealing a prospect. Sod the history, we have history, Jesus even Burnley have an illustrious history!!

Liverpool might have some pulling power if yet another Billionaire arrives in English Football to play silly buggers but, until that time ever, if ever, comes to pass I think we're pretty safe from the 'meeja' desperation.

[quote="burger777"]liverpool up his money, harry gone like a shot.

    Up his money with what?

    Green Shield stamps?

They don't have a pot to P*ss in, lost millions in their low finish and have lost all that CL revenue.

Shirt sales go up the swanny as they lose the exposure, along with all the other merchandising revenue, and their sponsors will start reviewing their participation in what is a dead duck.

Add to this the fact that Liverpool FC couldn't, from a financial point of view, manage a P*ss up in a brewery .................................................

Yeah, Harry must be SOOOOOOO tempted.

Would we be happy if Arry went to Lpool if we got Gerrard Or Torres as part of a deal in return?

Arry wont go and i dont want him to go. But as bit of fun, i just wanted to see what people would be prepared to settle for in exchange for Arry going to the poOL.

Sven has been tipped to take over at Liverpool, Sven said he's always supported them since he was a kid. I would imagine that the Liverpool fans would be happy with him, but may not be happy with his wage demands, Sven doesnt come cheap!

I think you will find it wasn't loyalty against fans or club but in fact loyalty to his staff & a falling out with the chaiman that made him leave Pompey , and on his return it was again a dispute with the board and maybe a feeling he hadn't done the job he was tasked to. The facts on both moves are so far as I can asscertain because 'arry had a dispute with Pompeys then owner Milan Mandarić over his assistant Jim Smith. Redknapp had another disagreement with Mandaric over the appointment of Velimir Zajec as Director of Football and resigned as Portsmouth's manager in November 2004. A few weeks after his departure at Pompey, Redknapp became manager of Southampton, a move which infuriated Portsmouth's supporters as the two clubs are rivals. Redknapp was tasked with keeping Southampton in the Premier League but ultimately was unable to achieve this, ending Southampton's 27 year spell in the top flight. Redknapp remained in charge for the 2005–06 Championship season but was unable to establish consistency. Redknapp was also unhappy with chairman Rupert Lowe's appointment of Sir Clive Woodward to the club's coaching staff. After being repeatedly linked with a return to Pompey after they sacked Alain Perrin, Redknapp resigned as Southampton's manager in early December 2005. He returned to Pompey a few days after. Lowe quoted Redknapp as referring to Portsmouth as his "spiritual home". Now I'm not saying 'arry wasn't head-hunted but it seems more a case of independent thinking and certainly not a merecenary mind set . . . . .
