Tottenham Hotspur are set to launch a bid for Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi before the transfer window closes, according to reports from England.
Tabloid The People suggests that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has turned his attention to the former Manchester United forward after being priced out of a move for Sevilla frontman Luis Fabiano and his alternative target, Milan’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, allegedly close to completing a switch to Schalke.
Redknapp is desperate to strengthen his squad ahead of the window closing, after finally eliminating Young Boys to qualify for the Champions League group stages, and now sees Rossi as the man to inspire his side.
The 23-year-old hit man hit an impressive hat-trick against the London club in a pre-season friendly, and is expected to cost in the region of €12 million.
After failing to make the grade at Manchester United, Rossi moved to El Madrigal in the summer of 2007, and helped the Yellow Submarine to an impressive second placed finish in La Liga.
The American-born Italian international collected his first cap for the Azzurri in October 2008, but was omitted from the Azzurri’s final 23-man squad for the World Cup in South Africa.
