    Gutierrez: Starved of possesion

Jonas Gutierrez has admitted Tottenham starved Newcastle of possesion in their 2-0 defeat.

Spurs' dominance was such that Newcastle struggled to create any worthwhile chances for 11-goal striker Andy Carroll.Gutierrez
and his opposite winger Wayne Routledge have been scrutinised for their
lack of delivery from wide areas in the aftermath of this loss. But the Argentina international explained to The Chronicle: "We didn't have the ball.Crosses

"If you don't have the ball you can't put in crosses. All we could do was work hard and try to win the ball."If we don't keep the ball it is difficult to make crosses. That is normal against a good team."This is a team playing in Europe with big players in the team, and it happens in football."It is normal not to have the ball in games such as this. And that can make putting in crosses impossible."Tottenham's
wingers, however, provided the cutting edge in this game with their
lacerating dribbles, and more importantly, a goal apiece. Formation

    Aaron
Lennon and Gareth Bale ensured Harry Redknapp's men grabbed the points
as question marks were raised about the effectiveness of Newcastle's
4-5-1 formation in this game. Gutierrez added: "We had to defend. When you get the ball against a team like Spurs you need to keep it and play well."I can only say it again - it was against a good team and it was hard for us because they kept the ball."We have some sad feelings but we know we played against a quality team full of quality players."And we were away from home so it was difficult for us. They are a Champions League team so that means something."
