STEVE BRUCE wants £12m duo Peter Crouch and Jay Bothroyd to fill the void left by striker Darren Bent.

The Sunderland boss will launch a £10m bid for Crouch, 29, while testing Cardiff’s resolve by tabling a £2m offer for the highly-rated Bothroyd, 28, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce’s frantic bid to replace Darren Bent took a twist yesterday as his hopes of landing unsettled Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko were dashed.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants to recoup all the £13.8million spent two and a half years ago on Russian striker Pavlyuchenko, which Bruce feels is too high for a player who is 29.

imagine the spurs strike force then if we dont buy anyone we would have to try others like pav and even try gio up front.

hes also hardly ever played in europe.

crouch went on a 19goal drought for liverpool. surley crouch would be gettin more chances set up for him at liverpool spurs.

crouch has done really well for england although people say scores aganst lesser teams but goals or goals and he should be playin for england instead of rooney for now if only on merit

crouch dont set up many games. if anything he hinders our atack because he takes 3 touces to bring the ball down. we play better footbal when pav plays because he has the intelegence to come wide when need be.

Bottom line we are a club on the up with massive ambition , we're in the knockout stages of the CL and we want to stay amonsgt the bigboys and push on from here, but we don't have the strikers to do it, most of our goals have come from midfield not abad thing but with a couple or one truely world class striker just think how much more effective we would be, frankly the truth is we have good strikers but nothing special and that is what is needed up front someone special , a lineker or klinsmann someone that can win us games .
