Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale insists he is happy with life at the
club amid continued speculation that he will be the subject of a
big-money bid from the continent this summer. GettyImagesA number of Europe's big guns are believed to be ready to try to wrestle Bale away from Spurs
A
number of Europe's big clubs are reported to be interested in Bale, who
was crowned PFA Player of the Year on Sunday, but the Welshman has
made it clear that he is content at White Hart Lane. "I'm
enjoying my football at Tottenham," Bale said. "We've got a great
manager and a great, young squad. We're still learning a lot this season
with the Champions League and it's exciting times. "We've got a
new training ground coming, which I'm looking forward to, and hopefully a
new ground as well. It's exciting times and I think we're all confident
of winning something soon."While Bale has dazzled in the Premier
League, it is in the Champions League that the 22-year-old has truly
flourished this season. Memorable performances home and away
against reigning champions Inter Milan represent particular highlights
for the former Southampton man, and he is desperate for Spurs to make it
there again, though he believes qualifying for the competition this
year would be even more impressive than last year's fourth-place finish.
"I think it would be an even bigger achievement for us after
what we've had to go through for the first time," Bale said. "It was a
lot to ask of us to do, both in the Premier League and the Champions
League. I think we've coped with it well. "We've kept ourselves
up there in the league and now it's coming to the final straight, where
we know what we need to do. It was always going to be harder, with City
and Chelsea spending so much money and making the competition even
harder. "But we're still going to give it our all. We feel we've got a better squad than other teams, so we can stay up there."Bale's
boss Harry Redknapp has warned Tottenham's rivals that his prized asset
still has plenty of room for improvement, insisting it is only a matter
of time before he is hailed the planet's best in his position. "He's got the lot really, it's just whether he becomes the world's best left-back or left-sided midfielder," Redknapp told Sky Sports.
"Both options are open to him, he's such a talent. You look at the
people who have won the award in the past, and it's an amazing
achievement for a kid of that age."It's mind-blowing when you've
seen who's won it, so he's in fantastic company - and he deserves to be.
He's getting there, but he's still got plenty to learn, and he'll learn
that. He's so young and he can only get better. We've not even seen
what he's capable of doing I don't think. There's a lot more to come
from him."
