    EAM NEWS

Tottenham are hoping Ledley King's long-standing knee problem will not prevent his recall in place of the suspended Younes Kaboul.

Roman Pavlyuchenko is likely to again miss out with a back complaint.

Sunderland pair Nicklas Bendtner and Craig Gardner are back in full training and could return from respective groin and hamstring problems.

New manager Martin O'Neill will definitely have midfielder Lee Cattermole available after suspension.
    MATCH PREVIEW

Unlucky to lose their 11-game unbeaten run at Stoke City last Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur remain one of the stories of the season.
While Manchester City have risen to the very top, Spurs' elevation into the top four has been no less impressive and every bit as entertaining.

To some, they are genuine dark horses for the title. I can't see that myself, but there's no reason to think they can't finish third, which would be their highest placing since 1990.

Harry Redknapp was pragmatic in defeat at the Britannia Stadium and will be confident of quickly returning to winning ways at home, where Spurs have won their last five games in a row and last conceded a goal on 30 October. The suspension of Younes Kaboul is a a blow, especially with Ledley King and Michael Dawson out injured, so Sebastien Bassong should get the chance to impress.

Sunderland don't have a good record at White Hart Lane - only one win in 20 visits since 1978 - but, as expected, the arrival of Martin O'Neill as manager has immediately lifted Wearside.

It's not just that he won his first game in charge, it was the manner of the success that was so uplifting. Two goals in the last six minutes - it's Roy of the Rovers stuff and bodes well for the future. I think the Irishman is the perfect fit for Sunderland and vice-versa. He's the master at getting that extra 10% from his players. On paper, Sunderland have always looked a useful side - with O'Shea, Brown, Richardson, Larsson and Bendtner - that extra 10% might be all that's needed to climb the table.

However, it might not be enough to stop Tottenham, who having dallied unconvincingly and exited early from the Europa League this season and want to make sure it's the Champions League for them in 2012.
    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

Sunderland have only won once in the league at White Hart Lane since 1978 (2-1 in 2008).
Spurs have won 12 of the 20 Premier League games between the sides, compared to Sunderland five.

    Tottenham

Spurs have 31 points from their opening 14 matches - their highest points total at this stage of a top-flight season since 1960-61 when they had the equivalent of 40 points. That season they went on to win the title.
They are unbeaten in their last 11 home league matches, winning each of the last five.
Despite having played one game fewer than most teams, Tottenham had the most shots on target in the Premier League this season (105) prior to the weekend.
Emmanuel Adebayor has never scored against Sunderland in five previous attempts.
Aaron Lennon is in line to make his 250th appearance for Tottenham, while Luka Modric could make his 100th Premier League start.

    Sunderland

Martin O'Neill has lost only three of 16 matches against Tottenham and is unbeaten in his last three league visits to White Hart Lane.
Sunderland are attempting to earn back-to-back league victories for the first time since winning their first two matches in 2011.
Only Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City have conceded fewer goals than Sunderland this season.
Sebastian Larsson has scored three goals from six direct free-kicks this season - no other player has more than one in the Premier League.
