I don't know about you guys but I am disapointed in our play this season.

We were playing a lot better last season. The football was flowing and good to watch and you always felt we could beat anyone...even if we didn't.

The problem is you can't let the likes of Modric and VDV go without replacing them with the same sort of class. Sigurdson and Dempsey were not the answer, just cheap alternatives.

If you have real ambition then you must get the best players in. A striker was a must at he start of the season and even more so now but we are not buying according to AVB. Also Moutinio as a replacement for Modric was a perfect fit but we faffed about as usual and missed the boat...AGAIN.

The problem as I see for the remainder of the season is that without a quality striker we will not score enough goals. Add to that Liverpool have made 2 very good buys in Sturridge and Coutinio and will start picking up points the a*se will very possibly go on their late run and even Everton have made a couple of buys ......They have also put in a bid for Negredo....so they are going for 4th.

So my worry is a 6th or 7th finish and in the summer Bale will be gone,. of that there is no doubt.

So could somebody tell me where the ambition of the club is especially as they are aparently giving Defoe special blood treatment to keep him playing rather than spend in the transfer window.

Having reached top 4 twice in the last three seasons and sitting in 4th now, makes you wonder how far we could go if Levy really opened his wallet?

Compare this season to last eh? Well at the end January 2012 the the table looked like this . . . .

    No movement 1 Man City 23 41 54
    No movement 2 Man Utd 23 35 54
    No movement 3 Tottenham 23 19 49
    No movement 4 Chelsea 23 15 42
    Moving up 5 Liverpool 23 7 38
    Moving down 6 Arsenal 22 6 36
    Moving down 7 Newcastle 22 2 36
    No movement 8 Stoke 23 -12 30
    Moving up 9 Everton 23 -3 29
    Moving down 10 Norwich 22 -4 29

7 points less from one game more and one place down and 13 points ahead of a certain team I must mention. So in truth we aren't as well off but the current table shows . . . .

    No movement 1 Man Utd 24 28 59
    No movement 2 Man City 24 26 52
    No movement 3 Chelsea 24 25 46
    No movement 4 Tottenham 24 12 42
    No movement 5 Everton 24 10 41
    No movement 6 Arsenal 24 19 38
    No movement 7 Liverpool 24 12 35
    No movement 8 Swansea 24 7 34
    No movement 9 West Brom 24 0 34
    No movement 10 Stoke 24 -5 30 30

But it also shows the league leaders are 5 points better off, 2nd place 2 points less well off (and 4th place on the same points!) so it seems teams are taking points off each other more this season and considering Redknapp was into his 4th season with us the squad would have been more settled. Factor in the loss of Modric & VdV and the fact Adabadback has been useless this season it does even out. Yes we need another striker, which shows quite clearly in our lesser goal difference this season. But I don't think AVB will have his ego turned by the allure of a national coaching job that he & his chums in the meeja thinks he's entitled to but the footballing authorities don't. Probably not a tax evasion court case either. So all told not too bad and not that far off the pace of last season . . .

They are statistics Vis." Never mind the width feel the quality" as my old gym mistress use to say. We are not playing aswell as last season by a long way, in my opinion and we are lacking a bit of class and I'm just worried about the rest of the season with no re-inforcements.

What would you care about losing these players Lought? You are on record as slagging off VdV most weeks?

Mikey they are indeed just stats and indeed we are not as fluent this season as last. However he says. We went into a slump this time last season and never really recovered, in fact our fluent football disappeared and we let 3rd place slip when at one stage we were touted as title contenders this time last season! We knew when AVB signed he preferred a 4-3-3 rather then 4-4-2. He has adapted but I would suggest he hasn't really had the full squad at his disposal once this season and Adabadbacks ineptitude has not helped? We missed out on Moutinio at seasons start and I'm the 1st to agree with everyone that we need more striking options. But they have to be the right strikers and this is where we as fans NEED Levy to make correct and well thought out decisions on behalf of the club he is supposed to sheppard. Next season we may see yet another evolution in the playing style but if we keep competing and keep on the roller coaster surely none of us can complain? Still early doors for AVB . . . .

Who said it was lought? I didn't mention AVB I just said we are not playing aswell as last season.

It's the players that are not playing aswell as last season, although having said that the Manager has to take some of the blame, doesn't he?

I asked the question do you guys think our football is not as good as last year. Vis gives me statistics ballistics, you tell me it's not AVB 's fault we lost VDV and Modric, I know all that, but how do you think we are playing.

I really can't see what all the fuss is about, a new striker , seriously , why ?

Ade will be back soon , Defoe is back playing, most the goals
scored this season have come from midfield , its not like we are sitting tenth in the table , this season is a transitional season for spurs , AVB has begun to weed out the players he want's and the ones he don't want.

To be sitting 4th and 4 points clear of arselol is imo a
good position at this stage in the season, lets not worry about buying a striker , we can get plenty of goals from midfield , why spend 20 million in January , if we buy a
Striker now surly this could be disruptive to the team, would ade or defoe want to sit on the bench, cos one would have to , why not wait to the end of the season, then AVB can go to Levy and say get shot of these players get me this player etc etc .

    4th place , four clear of Arselol , it's in our hands , don't panic .

with a top striker in we would be more than 4 points clear of a*se and everton breathing down our neck, considering the chances missed by our strikers.ade coming back dont fill me with confidence if hes in the same lazy mood he left in. anyway its done now so we gotta get on with it. avb was quoted in the paper today as saying we left it to late to get the damaio transfer done."things were very close, but we needed more time". yeah we only had a f*cking month like all the other teams.

"All the fuss about a new striker" Lobo is cos' we ain't scoring many goals. None against QPR, one against Norwich and one late on today. Defoe is now injured and out for some time and Adeygonaway is not playing well at all. 3 teams are breathing down our necks and a quality striker could have been the difference between 4th or 7th.
I just hope Bale keeps fit or we are really in the sh*t.

Playing devils advocate, apart from Leandro who was never really going to be released three quarters into their season, what quality strikers could we realistically have bought? What would happen if Mata or Lampard got injured, cos Cheatskis strikers ain't scoring either.

The problem is Dave we didn't try hard enough. Damio was there if we had wanted to.
I think it is arrogance if they assumed we will make top 4. and then get a striker and others? in the summer.

What if we don't make it, will Bale stay? who will come in with no CL.

No I feel it was a mistake not to strengthen now rather than wait to see what happens. Liverpool did and they are steadily improving. All they added was a playmaker and a Striker and they could finish above us.

We are still in the driving seat with a better defence than last season.

Mate, the best team in Europe and infact the world, Spain, won a tournament without a forward. Most of our goals have come from midfield,
Bale/Lennon/Dempsey. Ade will be back from his holiday for the Magpies, then we dont have a league game until 25.02.13 where we will probably have Defoe and maybe even Kaboul back. Not scoring many goals didnt stop George Grahams Arsenal from winning the league, not letting them in did and in our unbeaten run of 8 league games, we have conceded just 4 goals.

Like I said to someone earlier, I would take 1-0 every time if it got us the 3 points and I bet Cheatski would to, but they are as open as a barn door, what with 2 forwards and a myriad of attacking midfielders to call on.
