NICOLAS ANELKA, GUISEPPE ROSSI, DIEGO FORLAN
ComeOnSpurs.com; 31 January 2011
Rossi's agent is being quoted as saying that we have lodged a firm bid and that Villareal want to do business. The problem is that there may not be enough time left to complete the deal. The window closes at 11.00pm tonight and to say we are cutting it fine is an understatement.
But this is positive news and the likelihood that we will land a striker before the deadline is far higher now than earlier today.
We have not given up on landing Diego Forlan either. We had a bid for in the region of £17million turned down earlier today but sources are suggesting that we are going back in with an improved bid as we were not dismissed out of hand by Forlan's club Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club said that the offer was 'not enough', not that they would not sell.
The Rossi and Forlan deals are intrinsically linked however and it will be one of the strikers and not both who end up signing. Or maybe neither...
The Rossi deal seems the most unlikely to happen, due to the time contsraints mentioned previously. With Forlan, we are further ahead with the negotiations.
A third option for a new striker has emerged in Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka. Anelka was originally being touted as a makeweight in the Fernando Torres deal but Liverpool appear to have landed Newcastle's Andy Carroll.
