    Hi Lew.
Thank you so much for giving me your phone number and also the phone number of the BTA. My wife has been very low as she is getting a sreeching noise in one ear and a noise like a vacume cleaner in the other ear. She was told by our doctor that it would be at least six weeks before she gets an appointment at the Hospital so she rang the people that deal with appointments to see if it could be earlier. Anyway, they asked her if she would mind going to any Hospital, she said she would not mind so they have given her a appointment on the 16th December at a private Hospital in Sawbridgeworth, I think I have spelt that right, they also take NHS patients. I told you that she loves her dancing, she does practice at home and in doing so wears headphones connected to a MP3 player, but she is now worried that they might damage the ears further and does not wear them anymore, do you think it would hurt her using them?. All the best Lew.

Hello Len, no she mustnt use any headphones at all, any type, its possible that this is what has caused the tinnitus and it will make it worse to play at any volume directly into the ears.
I am sorry i have been slow to answer but i have been so busy working.
Tell your wife that it takes a bit of time getting over the initial shock but that the mind learns to ignore it and she can get on with her life, but she must keep busy and be distracted from the noise, and she needs the sound oasis at night played just below the volume of the tinnitus, she doesnt want to drown the tinnitus out completely by the sound oasis as this will hinder the natural habituation period.
I hope she starts to feel better soon and i am glad she is on the ent path in the hosptial, they will teach her various coping techniques, maybe give her an mri scan to ensure nothing else has caused the tinnitus.
If you need to phone me thats fine, as i am a bta support contact and my number is on their site anyway.
    Give her my regards.
    Lewis
