Beckham, who could be at White Hart Lane this afternoon to watch Spurs play Charlton, has been offered a three-month loan deal but Redknapp has plans to sign him on a long-term basis. If Beckham does well back in the Premier League, Spurs will offer him the chance to come home for good when his LA Galaxy contract expires in November.
Even though Becks will be well into his 36th year by then, Redknapp is convinced he would still have plenty to offer his emerging side – and England.
Redknapp said: “I don’t think age comes into it. He’s in good nick. He knows how to win games and has a lot to offer.”
Redknapp sees the inspirational Beckham as the perfect foil for Peter Crouch and is desperate to get him signed up, for a few weeks at least. And that means by today if possible.
“It is not definite, but if the deal is done by Sunday there is a chance he will be there,” Redknapp revealed.
The Spurs boss is rubbing his hands at the impact Beckham could have on some of his younger players, particularly Aaron Lennon.
“They are complete opposites really, but Beckham’s delivery and making goals is what it comes down to in the end,” said Redknapp.
