Goal.com is reporting that the White Hart Lane outfit has finally offloaded the Republic of Ireland captain to the Upton Park outfit. The Hammers have agreed to pay 100% of his £65,000 weekly wage bill. Additionally, it’s reported that West Ham will be contractually obligated to sign the striker to a permanent deal if they avoid relegation at the end of the season.
Keane and everybody at Tottenham are relieved that a deal has been reached after the striker declined to talk to Birmingham City earlier in the transfer window after Spurs accepted a £6 million bid. We now know that he was holding out for this move across London.
The striker will have to get regular playing time at West Ham if he is to return to the national squad. Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni warned Keane that if he wasn’t playing a lot then he wouldn’t be called back up – regardless of the fact that he is the captain. After starting only two matches for Tottenham this season, the Hammers will look to utilize him much more as they fight for their Premier League lives.
