    Super Hart Or Wasted opportunity?

Post by BazSpur on Sun Aug 15 2010, 14:33

    SuperHart or wasted opportunity?

The average Brit throws away 3.6 tonnes of needless
food waste a year, and 29 tonnes of general use batteries are disposed
without being recycled, but most worrying of all Spurs forwards waste 9
    chances before taking the 10th.

We all hate waste, now I am not
here to start an environmental discussion on what we can do to save the
planet but if you will allow me I would like to talk about the third
point. I do not want to write this as a negative article because
Saturdays display was simply mouth watering, the pace, skill and passion
shown especially in the first half were everything we could ask for.
But once again we find ourselves hearing sound bites such as 'They
should have had 6!' Alan Hansen, 'Spurs should have won comfortably'
Alan Shearer and 'City survive Spurs onslaught' anonymous, and they are
    hard to swallow.

Now admittedly again we found ourselves against
a keeper who had taken the White Hart Lane superhero juice reserved for
    opposition keepers, but my use of the word 'again' is what worries me;
Myhill, Schwarzer (away), Simonsen and Friedel twice last season were
all displays that cost us points, points that would have put us 3rd. So
can it just be put down to keeper heroics or would City have come away
from The Bridge, Old Trafford or The Emirates with their tails between
their legs and Mancini odds on favourite to be sacked?

    So let's
have a look at such numerous chances that Match of the Day could not fit
them all into their highlights reel. Starting with Defoe, the shot on
the turn was a great bit of agility and a great save but I can't help
but think that with ¾ of the goal open that was the only place Hart
could have had a chance to save it even if it was only a slim one, the
one-on-one we have seen that too many times in big games and then the
chance where he is sat on the floor still with a bit of guile he could
    have scored.

Crouch is a weapon in the air, but I have never
seen a bullet header from him it is always looped or a knock down which
does actually remove a goal threat, Pavlyuchenko and Keane seem to have
the same problem they will go on 10 game runs where they do have that
clinical streak, but it seems to be very fragile based on confidence and
then they will go 10 games looking average in front of goal,
unfortunately we saw the later yesterday and a few powder puff efforts.

    Finally!
the Bale chance, head in hands time once more. Now I am going to get
stick for this, it being one game into the season, but with the transfer
window set to close in two weeks if it is not addressed soon we have to
live with it until January. Add to this we do talk about being a top 4
regular which means you have to be ruthless, no-one will give you any
    favours (well Wigan might).

I wrote an article after the
champions league final saying we needed a clinical finisher who gives us
fans less dramas against teams we should have put away at half time,
but also will take half chances in cagey fixtures in Europe. I think we
still need it if we are to maintain our position and maybe close in on
the top 3. There is still time and maybe qualification will give us the
    carrot to get it.

Let me be clear, I am not talking doom and
gloom after yesterday, the rest of the team is looking exceptional we
have world class players in Bale and Modric who would get into any team
in Europe. While Lennon and Huddlestone give us one of the strongest
midfields in England. We also have a settled defence and to be honest
probably the strongest bench in the league, but wouldn't it be great to
have that deadly striker up front to put the icing on the cake of all
    the teams hard work?

I thought I would I Would post one of the more sensible answers to the above post too.

Quite simply this is a new season, so lets not
bang on about opposition goal keepers. Yesterday Joe Hart saved not
only 2 points but an embarrassing lesson in Football. Citeh are &
rightly so considering their Squad, Manager & insulting amount of
financial backing one of the favourites for the Title this season. We
battered a "Team" that had 2 of the best (Toure & Barry) & 1
very good De Jong holding midfielders in modern football, their tactics
were to stop our creativeness & counter, well that worked ! We
showed the whole of the PL that we are developing VERY nicely. The fact
really would've been cemented by the win but the display was nothing
short of superb. Personally ( although he did a good job ) I would've
started Kaboul @ RB ( if fit ) & I'm able to admit BAE hasn't filled
me with confidence pre-season, but Harry got it SPOT ON. BAE had a
blinder. Gio came on once Lennon's legs had gone & showed us the
stunning talent we have in a refreshed player ( & future star ). JD
was magnificent & desperately unlucky, his turning volley was hit in
the only secure place it could've ( to turn, connect & get on
target like he did was excellent ) his cheeky attempt to play off the
defender for either a tap in or OG on any other day would've gone in.
Thudd with that exquisite volley, matched only by another stunning save.
BAE's attempt that took a wicked deflection to the top corner only to
be brilliantly saved ( noticing the pattern ). Modric was every where,
breaking up play creating chances & all this from a player running
on empty from K.O. !Am I the only person to think the foul on Bale was a
stone wall Pen ? And the way Lennon was thrown on the floor when (
    Kompany ? ) was already on a yellow ( I don't care if it was a soft
yellow ) surely that should've been a Red. I admit that may seem like
sour grapes, but my point is the Lads never gave up hope. Yes the 2nd
half we tired a bit, but what do you expect after those "very important"
internationals mid-week & the 1st half display ? In summary
Excellent start for SPURS, shockingly awful display my New Money Citeh,
bar a World Class display in goal from ENGLAND'S NO.1 ! Now all we have
to deal with is a Football Squad that are not as weak ( or as attractive
as Garry Glitter would like to think ;-) !!! ) as there name sounds, on
a pitch that would be better off in the yard of a recycling plant !

The first guys report was right it probably was a mixture of great goalkeeping with a bit of luck. But when you look back at the other amazing keepers exploits last season it does make you wonder about that killer striker streak and do we have it at the moment. It's all very well looking good and creating chances....... and we do in both departments.......but it's goals that win games.

Regarding the point he mentioned about Crouch. It's amazing for such a tall guy he doesn't seem to have a lot of power in his headers and they are more off target than on.
I'm sure Harry will work on that but a killer striker would be nice.
