I reckon there maybe some mileage in this one. It has been circulating for awhile and SunLun are happy to do business with us for mis-firing strikers who Steve Bruce feels he can get mileage out of. Could be a swap deal for Gyan is on the cards ? He strikes me as an 'arry type of player . . . . . .

....and maybe take another in the process, namely Asamoah Gyan. Like i said its probably bollox you know how rumors spread like wild fire but id rather keep hold of Defoe then swap him plus cash, for Gyan!

Steve Bruce has been a busy man in the transfer market, and I wonder if he is right by going for the type of players he has signed instead of the so called big name buy's. Perhaps there are a few player's here that he has signed that might have benefited us had we bid for them. The players he has signed, Connor Wickham,£8 million, Craig Gardner £4.5 million, O'Shea, Wes Brown and Darren Gibson from Man United for £12 million, Sebastian Larsson, Ji Dong-Won, and Ahmed Elmohamady. He is also bidding for David Vaughan of Blackpool. We were reported to be entering the bidding for Connor Wickham at one time but we did not follow it up. Anyway, eight players in all. I think we might have done well to sign a few of these as when ever we sign a top player there head's are turned when ever Chelsea or United say they are interested in them. I think the type of player's Bruce is buying will shine as they set out to prove to him and there former club's he has made a good signing. Any of these player's take your fancy.

Steve Bruce is signing players to move Sun'lun from a mid table team to one that could possibly challenge for European places.

Pretty much what we did ourselves when Jol managed.

I won't denigrate the likes of Wes Brown and John O'Shea, as they've been part of title winning sides virtually all of their career to date, but I don't believe they are an improvement on any of our players and if they're not, none of the others are for sure.

We've moved beyond these type of players, with perhaps the exception being Wickham as he is so young, but you can only bring in so much young talent. We already have lots in and English youth is not only expensive, they seem to think they should be in the first team as soon as they join, barring a few exceptions.

So no for me Len, I don't see any of Sun'luns signings, or targets, as being worth Spurs having a punt at.

Oh how we shall miss the News of the Screws and it's honest, reliable, fair-minded reporting . . . . . .

Tottenham are set to offer striker Jermain Defoe plus £5m in exchange for Sunderland's Asamoah Gyan.
