Souleymane Coulibaly scores on Spurs debut.

16 year old striker, Souleymane Coulibaly, signed after his impressive
showings for Côte d'Ivoire in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup, came off
the bench to get his first Spurs goal as our young players held
Brighton to a very creditable 2-2 draw in Portugal.

Again, I can't be sure of the formation, but our team was:

    Button
    Byrne Livermore Nicholson Townsend
    Pritchard Luongo Carroll Kane
    Mason Obika

Subs: Soli, Waller-Lassen, Oyenuga, Milos Veljkovic (trialist)

Brighton's line-up was not first choice, but certainly more experienced than ours:

    Brezovan
    Calderon Cook Hall Painter
    Sparrow Bridcutt Smith LuaLua
    Hoskins Agdestein

Subs: Poke (GK), Greer, Vincelot, Dicker, Buckley, Navarro, Mackail-Smith.

Spurs went 2-0 down (goals from Hoskins and Agdestein) but Andros
Townsend's long-range effort made it 2-1 at the break. "Soli" replaced
Obika at half-time and scored from close range ten minutes into his
debut to equalise. He was lively for the rest of the match, having a
number of efforts on goal - the Brighton website described him as a
    "livewire".

Spurs bossed the second half, but were unable to find a winner. Still, a
draw and a win against Championship opposition is very impressive for
our young development squad, managed in Portugal by Tim Sherwood and Les
    Ferdinand.

Season at Gillingham would be ok, then we can get regular updates from a chum of mine who is a season ticket holder there. Lets be honest guys do we reaslly think he is going to be ready for the EPL after just breaking thro' in international youth football & 10 appearences for an Italian youth team ? This is one for a few years time me thinks . . . .

Yep, you're right Vis but judging by the way some of our so called prodigies have been loaned out never to be seen again I think posters are wary with all youngsters we sign.

Absolutely Baz. Spurs record with youngsters is patchy to say the least. Why this happens is beyond me but in fairness how many have come back & bit us in the backside ? I would though like to see more committed youth development at the club . . . .

Funnily enough last season I was in favour of the loan deals and the 1st team experience it allowed young players to gain. But I am coming more & more to believe that a reserve team would be the better long term solution. Get all levels of players at the club playing the same systems & tatics and that way allow any player the ability to cover for someone else, even in the 1st team . . . .

That's it in a nut shell Vis. It would also be easier for Spurs fans to see the young uns in action.

All the loan players are required to train with Spurs even whilst they are on loan. That way they DO maintain their links with the other players and the tactics.

The loan system is by far the better option for player development as the environment is far more competitive. Have you also noted that these loanees are sent out to clubs that 'play Football?' We're not sending them to the likes of Stoke or the 'lump it and hope' merchants in the lower leagues.

The way Spurs are doing it is far more likely to produce ready Footballers than sticking them into a 'going through the motions' environment that is often found in Reserve Football.

Good points ion but I still feel the supporters would like to see them play. They don't get to do that when they are on loan to Leicester or Leyton Orient.

They can see them play when they break through mate. Very Happy And let's face it, as far as our youth is concerned what is more important, letting a few interested fans see them so they can tell their mates in the pub how they'll be a success/failure, or giving the youth the best possible chance of experiencing competitive Football in order to bring them on that little bit faster?
