Looking back on the Luka Modric saga it's hard to remember just how crazy it was. Things changed daily and the Spanish newspapers found a new angle on the situation several times a week. Modric wasn't happy with Tottenham and wanted them to allow him to complete his dream move to Real Madrid and it appeared that he and his agents were going to do anything possible to make that happen.

Real Madrid wanted to pay less than Tottenham decided and used the player's desire as a lever and Daniel Levy wasn't likely to give in without a fight, so the whole thing dragged on all summer. It was only 3 days before the end of the transfer window that the deal was finally complete and both Tottenham and Real Madrid had already started their seasons by then which meant that the Croatian had missed out on some preparation and training.

He blames this situation for his miserable season with Real Madrid. Modric hasn't lived up to expectations and he was never really someone the fans were hugely excited about signing anyway. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo in Spain about his difficult season, he said "I had a very demanding summer. I did not make the preseason with Real and it has had an influence."

Modric has said that La Liga is very physically demanding and missing out on that preparation time has held him back. It sounds like a bit of excuse making and the enthusiasm of completing his dream move should have helped over his 'demanding summer'.

"I am not completely happy with my performances. I've shown my quality in some games, my level and why I'm at Real. I've said before that the reasons were not participating with the team in the preseason. That has influenced and also if the whole team does not play like last season, it also complicates things for me."

Max me ole mukka good find but that article makes Modric look like a whining runt and I have to admit I always held him in higher esteem than that. Wouldn't be surprised to see him plot up at Chelski next season. Then I really would despise him . . . . .
