Franco Baldini has left Roma, and could be on his way to Spurs as technical director of football. AVB seems very keen on the idea but, we had Damien Comolli in that role a few seasons ago untill Levy got shot of him, and I do not think many of us were to pleased with Comolli at the time, so what has changed, is this Levy's idea or is it what AVB has requested to help move the club forward?. It did not work to well then, why should it now?. Have I got this right, is it the role of the technical director to search for players, and deal with transfers, or does he just deal with the transfer side and it is still up to the manager which players he want's at the club?. Not to sure of his role in all honesty but would like to know whether you think it would benefit the club?.

Comolli was not wanted by Jol. AVB wants a technical director. Give the guy what he wants, including signings . . . .

Signing players is just a part of his remit Len and that's pretty simplistic really. He will coordinate the scouting system and give it structure in line with what the clubs requirements are. Signings for the first team is just part of it, he will also be responsible for identifying young talent and bringing it into our structure. Not necessarily personally responsible, but he will oversee that scouting front too.

I expect him to work closely with AVB on the direction we want the Football to go in, as well as with the likes of Sherwood on the nextgen direction so that all aspects of the club are geared towards producing that conveyor belt of talent that will strengthen the first team and give us regular turnover on player sales. The framework is already there, we just need that cohesive policy.

Baldini's player acquisitions are excellent both for the quality and for the fact he got them before they were 'names.' Where he fell down, at Roma, was with the managers he appointed.

As important as getting in the right quality of player is, for our immediate needs, getting Baldini in may just be the most important signing we could make for our long term success.

Thank you Ion for the info. Lought I think we said a while ago about Sir Les. I agree mate I do not know what he is supposed to be doing with our strikers but what ever it is it is not working. Perhaps had he been younger the striker coach role would have suited Martin Chivers, come to that perhaps we should have him playing for us.
