The next two days will be either be greeted with huge joy or major disappointment over who we sign or don`t sign. This is where the master of brinkmanship Daniel Levy comes to the fore.
Levy is well knows as an outstanding negotiator and would any of us be surprised to see any number of outstanding signings or sales before 6pm tomorrow? As a club, it is refreshing to notice that although there remain several names put in the frame, it seems that they are all for positions that we agree need strengthening.
It would appear that we will be looking for at least one central midfielder, with Parker, Diarra and Muntari as the names at the top of our list, but would you be shocked if we actually signed two CM`s? That could be a possibility if Spurs were to sell Jermaine Jenas, especially with Jamie O`Hara a potential long term absentee. Perhaps it will be one of those and a name from nowhere, that joins the club, but I have a feeling that we would ideally be looking at adding one more central player, as well as the already signed Sandro, and if one leaves, we might be looking for another.
The talk over strikers seems to change every day. Yesterday we added Rossi, to the long term names of Huntelaar and Fabiano, and at that time is appeared that the Dutchman was heading to Germany in preference to a loan move to WHL, whilst Fabiano was deemed too rich for our budget.
Today it appears that Spurs have changed tact and offered Milan a permanent deal worth around £11m, which would probably appeal to the Italians far more than a loan deal, but will the player opt for Germany or the Premiership? Fabiano, seems to be Harry`s No1 choice, but are Savilla going to play ball or stick to talking monopoly money for their Brazilian? Fabiano was on the bench at the weekend, but can we read anything in to that or do we just consider it squad rotation after a busy European weekend?
The headlines state that Villa caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald, has stated that Spurs haven`t made an offer for Ashley Young, but has there been discussion? Again there are conflicting reports here, with Keane, Jenas, Bentley and Hutton still linked with deals to Villa Park in some sort of make weight, but I still feel that nothing will be done until a new manager is in place. If Villa aren`t going to buy anyone, why do they need to sell?
We will all be put out of our misery at 6pm tomorrow, and whether we are happy or disappointed might not be down to our clubs lack of ambition, but a stagnant market and unwillingness of others to sell their players for whatever reason, but if we do manage to do any transfers, you can bet that our chairman will have done a good deal and sold high and bought cheap. Harry may not like being called a wheeler dealer, but as a club we look like we have a decent policy of buying for the right reasons and the right price and that is good enough for me, regardless of a busy or quiet final couple of days...
