Ancelotti wants Modric? - I just can't see it.
Now this story has broken from literally nowhere and I have to say that
my initial reaction was "Spurs would never let him go!". Then after
thinking that I am wondering if he did come to Chelsea then "where would
he fit into the side?".
An obvious answer would be to put Michael Essien back in the holding
role and play Modric next to Lampard, but then once again I had to calm
myself down and get back to reality. I simply can't see this happening.
Now expect more and more rumour and speculation leading right up to the
end of the January transfer window. All we hear about in recent weeks is
that Roman Abramovich is going to splash the cash once again but I
really do have to doubt that would be the case anyway.
The SUN are running this article about Ancelotti speaking to a close friend of Modric. The Article states:
<blockquote>Chelsea's boss met Modric's close pal Zdravko Mamic and told him the Spurs playmaker, 25, is top of his shopping list.
That was the sensational claim made last night by Mamic, the powerful
Dinamo Zagreb vice-president, who engineered the Croatian star's
£17million move to Tottenham.
Mamic said: "I was with Ancelotti for lunch. I was very proud when I heard what he said about Modric.
"Luka is top of his list, his first pick when it comes to new signings. I
am not Modric's agent - I am just his friend - but I am very proud.
"I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to upset my friends at Tottenham."</blockquote>Isn't
it a coincidence that this article appears after Spurs have signed
Rafael Van der Vaart that can play in his position, that we are near the
transfer window and maybe just maybe, Spurs are looking at extending
the players contract.
Don't get me wrong he is a good player, but I expect Modric to remain at Spurs and extend his contract rather than come to us.

He signed a new, 6-year-deal in the summer. It's a non-starter. A lot
of teams would like Modric in their line-up but Spurs aren't going to
sell.

Modric already extended his contract earlier this year. Of course the
"we want to see Chelsea/Man Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal dominate forever and
so try to tap up the best players from other clubs" media always ignore
that sort of thing.

You dont know where Modric would fit in? Are you kidding me pal. He
fits into any top team in the world and runs the show. Maybe you havent
watched him play before?

The player signed a new deal in the summer and admitted in a statement
on our website that at that time big clubs had wanted him but he didn't
want to leave. So the notion of him wanting to leave AFTER signing for 6
more years and AFTER we are even more successful then when he signed,
doesn't make sense. But in fairness the bloke doesn't say it's a done
deal, just says Chelsea are interested.
I believe Chelsea
wanted him in the summer but ended up with Rameries. There's no going
back now without writing off a bucket load of money in not only signing
Modric at an inflated price (because he doesn't want to go, spurs have
no reason to sell) and also de-valuing rameries who subsquently won't
play.

He won't go. He hates you mugs just as much as the rest of the world does. He told me, and his mum hates you too.

Sorry but a non-starter, watch him week in week out and you can see why
people want him, one of only a few in the Prem that would not look out
of place in the current Barca team.....but here's the quote taken a
month back when he signed his six year contract that
matters....."Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League
and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there
have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in
going anywhere. Last season's Top 4 finish was an indication of where we
are as a Club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve
everything I want to at Spurs"

You see I knew all that, just posted because he "friend" decided to
state that Ancelotti likes him and he is his No1 transfer target!.
What you all need to remember is Money talks and it seems Roman is willing to spend!

At Spurs they seem to have a number of quality players who seem to be
well adjusted, non greedy and genuinly happy at the club so why risk that
and go somewhere else for an uncertain outcome.

As others have said - including the author of the article - it's not going to happen.
Modric
loves life at Spurs and has just signed a new six year deal. He's not
the type to have his head turned and become disruptive.
And
Spurs love Modric as much as he loves them. They have neither the need
nor the desire to sell. Quite the opposite. They want to build an even
better team around the creative talents of the likes of Modric, Bale and
Van der Vaart. The last thing they want to do is sell.
Even if, in some parallel universe, Spurs were prepared to sell Modric, they still wouldn't sell to a major London rival.
Equally
to the point, I simply don't think that Chelsea can afford Modric now.
The days of Abramovich heavily investing in new players are over.
They
are fighting a battle against time to get their finances in order
before UEFA's new financial fair play rules properly kick in. Last year,
they made an annual loss of £44.4 million. They need to balance the
books very quickly. If they don't, they will be barred from competing in
the Champions League. And that would be disasterous for them. It would
trigger a vicious circle, since missing out on annual income of £50
million or so from Champions League involvement would make balancing the
books even more difficult.
So whetever else happens, we can be
quite certain that Chelsea will not be big net spenders in the transfer
market for a few years yet.
