    Something Different Empty Something Different

Post by Guest Wed Feb 02 2011, 07:43

After Baz's original idea for this thread was so well recieved I thought I'd kick it off again. Maybe we can get different players this time and lets have a short memorey or reason why you picked the player.
    Ardiles - Osvaldo.
What can't be said about the magician ? One of the finest players to grace the Spurs midfield. My abiding memorey is of the way his joy of playing the game shone through on the pitch and his abject disapointment when the Falklands erupted and he had to leave. Also the "Famous Five" when he was a manger. Now that was a roller-coaster ride . . . .

Blanchflower - Danny. I was watching a little piece about him on the One Show on BBC1 tonight. He learned his trade in the backstreets of Ireland when there were 20 kids all kicking a ball on the cobblestones which made the ball act like a Rugby ball. So control and first touch was paramount. He was tough but also he oozed class and he had a pass to die for. There is no doubt about it he was the engine in the midfield for the double team. An unassuming character, when approached by Eamonn Andrews to appear on This Is Your Life he simply said "No Thank You" and walked off. He did however appear on the show many years later. A lovely man who was sorely missed when he passed away.

Ted Ditchburn second only to Pat Jennings as Spurs best goalkeeper. Was going to say Barry Daines but was laughing so much I couldn't type!!!

Eddie Bailey the "cheeky chappie" of the late 40's and 50's who sadly passed away a few months back.

Was always entertaining with his style of play and his joking on the pitch. That was in the days when the game was played for fun and not money and the clubs had the power and were not ruled by the players.

In those days you didn't need to kiss the badge you knew that the players loved the club because they stayed there, most of them through out their careers.
