you could have played for our mighty spurs at any time, who would you have liked to have been and in what era ? would you give up the earnings of todays players to be one of the greats from our double winning side, or would you have been a player from our cup winning sides of the 80s / 90s. be honest would the money of todays mediocres sway you or would you rather be a skint part of thfc history. who would you loved to have been given the choice.me?, have to be hoddle. the guy had it all, the skill the adoration of the fans and a top of the pops record lol. how about you lads.?

for me it would have to be when we had the likes of hoddle & waddle in the team, the late 70s early 80s where the best years I've known , football today has changed for the worse, back in them days football wasn't run by money men , to young to remember the 60s being born 66 and may i add i was born the 11th july the day the world cup started in 66 Smile

The Hoddle era for me too. My god what great players we had back then. a Midfield with Hoddle and Ardiles in it. Archibald and Crooks up front. Wonderful team and Wonderful days. I remember going to Wembley in 81 there was so much hope and the club was on a roll. The Saturday game wasn't much cop but who remembers the Thursday night replay? That wonderful goal by Ricky Villa. I was stood right behind that goal that night. I went mad when it went in lol. I jumped up so high I nearly took off. Great, great days and a great time for our club. Keith burkinshaw was a god. There should be a picture of him on these forums. I'll get it sorted.

anyone remember that goal hoodle scored from the half way line against Wimbledon? i think it was in the cup, and waddle scored from an aqute angle, i've asked this a few times but no one can remember. The hoodle goal has got to be the best goal i've ever seen, must have been at least 50-60 yard belter !

And yes the hoodle - waddle - crooks era was for me the best times !

I think the double era would have been great. They were such a slick passing side and created so many chances I would loved to have played up front and dream of the goals I would have scored.

But you are right about the Hoddle days it would have been brilliant to have played with such a genius. He should have had a lot more caps than he did but when England weren't playing well he was always being made the scapegoat and managers felt he was to much of a luxury to have in the national team. What a load of bollox.

There have been a few gifted players that have not had the caps they deserved over the years. The self destructed ones like Gazza and Best are obvious and it was of their own making that they did not have more. But Hoddle, Rodney Marsh and Le Tissier should have been nurtured and had England sides built round them.

So to answer the original question as I have gone off the point a bit. "Today Matthew" I would like to be Bobby Smith or Glen Hoddle.

1970 something. Chivers and me leading the line ripping defences to pieces. His headed knock down for my silky toes to bury. Gilzean giving me a heads up as to how my hair may look in the 21st Century ! Ralph Coates backing him up FFS. Mike England in defence, Jennings in goal and us playing in Europe. LOL. That will do for me Shear . . . . .

My favoured playing position was attacking midfield , just behind the strikers so the thought of having Greaves & Gilzean , Archibald & Crooks or Klinsmann & Teddy ahead is a bit difficult to chose from....

However Ive gone for playing in the early 80s team cos of the manager Keith Burkinshaw , the midfield players alongside me and the fact that I know Graham Roberts would be behind me, mopping up my fck ups lol
