    bang on Empty bang on

Post by Guest Wed Aug 24 2011, 00:39

what I loved about the 09/10 season was that we had no star player or
"one man shows"; everyone was equal and everyone played an equal part in
helping us reach the top 4.

In the past we have always been about one or two star players (Klinsman, Sheringham, Ginola, Gazza, Berba etc)
and whenever one of these star players got injured we were fooked!
However in the 09/10 season that was not the case. It can be argued that
Modric was a star player that season but the team coped without him!
Modric got injured at Birmingham, Krankjar came in and we kept going!
Bale was a star man but that was only from Jan'10 onwards, we survived
the first half of the season without him.

However all that changed last season; it became either the VDV, Modric
or Bale show! We went back to the days of star players and I feel
personally we lost the team spirit and many players in the team lost
belief in themselves and became over reliant on the star men.

I hope this season we can recapture some of the spirit we had in 09/10!
Every player has an equal part to play and not just about making sure
VDV scores so he looks good.

Lought, I know where you are coming from, but, I believe all teams have star players, you will always have those that are better than others, and those players when injured or sold on are sorely missed. When we had Sheringham, Klinsman, Gazza etc, they were our star players simply because they found the back of the net game after game, and no matter how many star defenders you have in a team, people seem to remember the star strikers because it is those players that bring us a victory. Look at the Arsenal, with Fabregas gone and they could be loosing is it Nasri?, I said on another post that they will be missed and we could see the decline of the gooners. I know it is important to have a great team spirit throughout the side, but you will always have a player or players that stand out in the team. You know, I thought the double side were the greatest Spurs side I have ever seen, but, had we not had certain players, Mckay, Jones, White, we would not have won the double with just the likes of Baker, Henry and Norman, they were very good, but we needed the great players to achieve it.

Spot on Len. Every team has them even if it's only one as with Le Tisseur when he was at Southhampton. Over the years we have been blessed with star players. You also need the make weights as well because a team of star players very rarely works too, many egos, to start with.

since vdv come in we been shite in the league. we was rubbish last season in the league.

vdv last night was so greedy wastin free kicks and shooting from silly angles,
we play him so we cant play 442.

we play defoe up on hes own. hardly troublling man u make shift back 4

Last years inspirational signing this years flop eh lought. well its early yet and i reckon we shouldnt base the team around vdv, but he does have a role to play at spurs.

im not sayin hes rubbish. he showed heart last night, the guy was so annoyed with lennon for not passing to him.

but harry needs to tell vdv to play the poistion hes meant to,

and we had the same problem last season. thats why we won 3 out of the last 15 games.

What is VDVs best position ?

I think he's best operated in a 4-3-3 with two holding midfielders behind him and have three speedy frontmen ahead of him ...

Perhaps he's not suited to a 4-4-2 and a 4-4-1-1 has not suited our strikers, so whats the answer?
