Tottenham Hotspur Aim To Wrap Up £12m Move For Nice Striker Loic Remy Within Days

Spurs in pole position for sought-after young French forward

Tottenham have launched a £12million bid for Nice striker Loic Remy and hope to wrap up the deal in the next few days.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has been tracking the France international since January and finally decided to make his move after club scouts watched him score the winner in Nice’s 2-1 victory over Lorient on Saturday night.

Remy, 23, has been one of the most sought-after players of the summer and has been strongly linked with a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Everton, West Ham and Stoke.

But Tottenham are now in pole position and are confident Nice will accept their £12m offer because Remy has made it clear that White Hart Lane is his favoured destination.
Remy – who has been dubbed ‘the new Thierry Henry’ – could arrive in London as soon as Monday afternoon to negotiate a contract, with Spurs hopeful he will be available for their trip to Stoke on Saturday.

Redknapp is keen to freshen up his squad and says he has identified three players he believes could turn Spurs into title contenders this season.
Remy is considered more adaptable than Spurs' current striking options, and Redknapp watched the forward play 45 minutes for France against Norway last Wednesday concluding the forward would be a valuable addition as Tottenham prepare for the challenge of Champions League football.

The Spurs boss turned to Remy after being frustrated in his efforts over the summer to sign star names Luis Fabiano, Luis Suarez and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. It is believed that chairman Daniel Levy will make another push to deliver a 'marquee' signing if Tottenham come through their Champions League play-off against Young Boys.

The capture of Remy will leave Redknapp with five strikers in his squad and will add to the speculation surrounding Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane, who are both expected to leave the Londoners should they receive an acceptable offer.
