William Gallas makes a timely return from a hamstring strain, but Robbie Keane is a doubt with a similar injury.

Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer will play his last game before flying out to the Asian Cup to represent Australia.

Forward Mousa Dembele is nearing a return after a seven-week absence with an ankle injury.

    Tottenham

Suspended: Defoe (two matches), Kaboul (three matches)

    Doubtful: Keane (hamstring)

Injured: Cudicini (shoulder), Huddlestone (ankle), King (groin), O'Hara (back)

    Fulham

    Doubtful: Dembele (ankle)

Injured: Briggs & Senderos (both calf), Stoor (groin), Zamora (leg)

    MATCH PREVIEW
Having won with 10 men for the second successive match following Younes Kaboul's red card for butting a Newcastle opponent, Tottenham now have a head-to-head in their favour.

They have only lost once in 63 years at home to Fulham and ended the west London side's unbeaten start in the league in October.

Tottenham's recent form has fuelled talk of a title challenge, and anything must feel possible at White Hart Lane these days. Conversely, Fulham begin the year in the bottom three and there were question marks over the future of manager Mark Hughes following the home defeat by West Ham on Boxing Day.

Fulham's subsequent victory at Stoke - their first away win since the opening day of last season - was as deserved as it was unexpected, with Chris Baird scoring his first goals since March 2007. Hughes described the performance as immense; for once, Fulham looked good in khaki.

They displayed a resilience in that game that has been a trademark of Tottenham's performances over the festive period. With their mix of perspiration and inspiration, it is little wonder that Spurs' title odds have shrunk to 20-1.

    MATCH FACTS
    Head-to-head

    • Tottenham's only home defeat by Fulham in 26 league and cup meetings since 1948 was a 3-0 Premier League reverse in August 2003 (W18, D7, L1).

    • Fulham are winless in six subsequent league visits to White Hart Lane, scoring only once in that sequence.

    • Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has won his last four league matches against Fulham counterpart Mark Hughes. In total, they have six wins each from 13 Premier League meetings.

    Tottenham

    • Spurs have won their last three New Year's Day fixtures at White Hart Lane since losing 2-1 to Coventry in 1994.

    • They are unbeaten in their last eight league matches (W5, D3). If they avoid defeat on Saturday it will be their longest streak without defeat since a nine-match run ended in March 1999.

    • Tottenham are the first top-flight club since Southampton in 1998 to have won two successive league games despite having a player sent off in both.

    • Harry Redknapp's side have gained 16 points from losing positions this season - by far the best record in the division.

    Fulham

    • Fulham won their first Premier League away game in 27 attempts at Stoke on 28 December.

    • They are vying for back-to-back league wins for the first time in 11 months.

    • The Cottagers have failed to win any of their last 33 away matches in London since beating Tottenham in August 2003.

    • Mark Hughes's side have dropped 13 points from winning positions, more than any other club in the division.

    • Fulham's Simon Davies, Stephen Kelly and Danny Murphy are all former Tottenham players.

A first half very reminiscent of the Barcode one. We can't seem to find our rhythm. Some sloopy passing as well. Fulham look good at times going forward but not defensively. Another game where even not firing on all cylinders we still look to have too much for the opposistion. I expect us to tear into them 2nd half and reckon we will see more goals. Corluka has looked comfertable since coming on . . . . . .

LOL so much for my 2nd half prediction ! ! ! Not a vintage game but 3 more points and the 2nd clean sheet on the bounce. The sign of a good team is to win when you don't play well on the day. It was Arnie who said awhile back that sometimes 1-0 was needed rather than a 4-3 and today was one of those occasions . . . . . . . . .

Gareth Bale's 11th goal of the season gave Tottenham victory over struggling Fulham to lift the North Londoners into the Champions League places.

Bale rose to head Rafael van der Vaart's free-kick past Mark Schwarzer at the end of a drab first half.

Spurs were indebted to Michael Dawson for a goal-line clearance following an Andy Johnson shot to preserve the lead.

It was the closest Fulham came to a goal and defeat leaves them in the bottom three. Spurs, though, march on.

Those connected to Tottenham are likely to play it down, but their now eight-game unbeaten run is sure to do little to quash suggestions they are well-armed for a title push this year.

If the sign of a championship-challenging side is that they win when not playing well, then, on the evidence of this, Harry Redknapp's side will be in the mix at the top of the table come May.

The home side were far from their best at White Hart Lane, particularly in a first half that saw a dearth of goal-bound efforts and a strong containing effort from Fulham.

However, the win was Spurs' - lifting them into the top four at Chelsea's expense - and, for the first time in three victorious matches, they managed to finish with all 11 men on the pitch.

Fulham have a right to feel somewhat aggrieved that they take nothing away from an encounter in which they showed the same resilience and commitment that earned them their first away win in 27 attempts at Stoke last Tuesday.

But for all their threatening potential the Cottagers demonstrated on the counter-attack, they lacked a killer punch in the final third and it cost them as their winless run at London clubs is extended to 34 matches and they remain in 18th place in the table.

Bale's goal was the only highlight of a first half in which Tottenham's Luka Modric was lively and central midfield partner Van der Vaart flattered to deceive, while lone Fulham front-man Johnson moved well but was denied shooting opportunities.

The first meaningful effort was not until the 20th minute, which Fulham's Clint Dempsey pulled wide from the edge of the penalty area, and the first home effort came 10 minutes later - Benoit Assou-Ekotto drawing a save from Mark Schwarzer with a 35-yard drive.

But with three minutes until half time, Bale broke the deadlock, cleverly directing a 12-yard header from Van der Vaart's central free-kick past the wrong-footed Schwarzer.

The goal is the Welsh winger's 11th of what has been a superb season thus far. He has now scored half his career goals in the first half of this campaign alone.

Spurs began the second 45 minutes in cruise control, facilitated by their lead, but a single-goal advantage is always fragile and Fulham almost exploited that during a five-minute spell midway through the half.

After some concerted pressure, Andy Johnson found space in the penalty area to fire goalwards from an angle eight yards out, which Heurelho Gomez could only palm across goal, but before the onrushing Clint Dempsey could capitalise Michael Dawson scrambled the ball to safety.

Bale could have made it a far more comfortable last quarter of an hour for the home side but for once he misjudged matters, blazing over from 12 yards following a cut-back from substitute Vedran Corluka.

Similarly, with five minutes to go, Aaron Lennon ran from his own half and jinked his way into a shooting opportunity in the Fulham box, but he fired his effort over when perhaps a pass to well-placed substitute Jermaine Jenas would have been a better option.

As it was, they were left hanging on as Fulham pressed for a late equaliser but they were able to resist the Cottagers best efforts.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp on his side's 1-0 win over Fulham that means they have collected three wins out of three over the festive period: "It was a tough game and credit to Fulham, they played very well and put us under pressure. You could see an equaliser coming. But there are no easy games. We looked like one of two were running on empty. We played with 10 men Sunday and Tuesday but nine points from the week is fantastic."

He said words to the effect that had he changed the team and not got a result (some) fans would say " why didnt he play his usual team " so he kept the same team (although kernackered) we won and everyone was happy ! except you of course ! lmao

3 of the above did Lought as they all played a part in the game. We are talking about professional atheletes here. Men who train & should maintain the highest levels of fitness as their job. I don't buy into the tierdness debate. These are professional footballers. Yes injuries happen but that's the nature of the game. If a thing ain't broke don't try to fix it ! ! ! Back in the day the same 11 players would play the majority of the teams games thro' the season and a settled side is a more consistent side . . . . . ..

The teams above us Lought all have had to cope with sat midweek sat games, its whos got the strongest squad and how you manage games, my guess is we just do less physical conditioning now and concentrate on set plays an finishing in training.
