vdv part of the problem Empty vdv part of the problem

Post by Guest Tue Feb 01 2011, 03:43

our strikers shouldn't have gone bad overnight. Crouch, Pav and Defoe are by records - proven goal scorers in the EPL/cup competitions.

The arrival of VDV changed our game quite a bit - a "livewire" - he would be what I called the "random" factor, giving us the unpredictability we needed up front. Him and Crouch provided a large bit of goals+assists for us this season. However aside from the head-down from crouch - which has been "found out" - we don't seem to have a repeatable way of scoring goals.

It also looks to me that while the team is still winning games, and holding the ball well, VDV is still a bit of an unknown factor and doesn't really click with the team in a "pass without seeing", telepathic way.

Could VDV's unpredictability and random factor also be a problem in the sense that the attack can't actually anticipate his movement to get into position, ready to strike? And our central midfield not getting the best alternating with him to get into scoring positions?

Also VDV's had a bit of history with coaches not playing him despite his good individual form. Real Madrid and the recent World Cup comes into mind. Before that the Euros. Mind you there were some good coaches behind those teams too.

Whatever, Harry's got some hard decisions to make. One of those is rethinking how to get the most out of VDV to support our strikers for the 2nd half of the season.
