Post by Adethfc Sun Feb 21 2010, 03:42

I was just on sky sports and read this article. Is it me or does anyone feel abit annoyed by it.

The part that annoyed me is at the end where he suggests that our players now wouldnt even know
where we finished 5 years ago or even who Dave Mackay was.
I understand the point he was trying to get across but making that statement stuck in my side a little.

Our players should know our history with how much they get paid at least surely.
Monday morning 9am - 9:30am Spurs history. rest of day penalties!!

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp insists he is pleased with his side's progress in the Premier
League despite a run of poor results.

Following an impressive start to the season, Spurs have seen their goal tally dry up of late,
drawing four blanks in their last six league games to fall to sixth in the Premier League.
However Redknapp is satisfied with his side's progress since he took over 16
months ago when they were languishing at the bottom of the table.

"Listen, if you'd said at the start of the year we'd be where we are, and still
in the FA Cup, I think everyone would have said 'fantastic'," said
Redknapp."People get carried away. Suddenly people think we're
going to get in the Champions League. We can still make the Champions
League, make no mistakes."We've still got a great chance of
making the Champions League and I'm delighted with how we've done,
fantastic. We've played some great football."I sill want to get
into the Champions League and I think we've got as good a chance as
any. I don't see any reason we can't do it, we've got a big chance.
It's going to be an exciting end to the season."

    Impact

Since beating Wigan 9-1 earlier in the campaign, Spurs have failed to see off
teams and have particularly missed the impact of winger Aaron Lennon
through injury. But the former Portsmouth boss refuses to compare
his side to previous Tottenham teams who have failed to deliver when it
really matters despite their recent run of poor results.

"It's a new team. I don't go with all that rubbish. How can that have any bearing with what's happened in the past?" he said
"These players don't know what happened four years ago, they probably don't even know they won the double in 1961!
"They wouldn't have heard of Dave Mackay. They wouldn't have a clue where Tottenham finished five years ago."

like i said legend, i could understand the point he was putting across fully, and am fully happy with him and the team this season.
but that statement at the end i thought a bit of a P*ss take, if they dont they should do.

The footballers nowdays are just robbing the clubs money, its a disgrace. But its too late to do anything about it, if a wage cap came in, players would prob go on strike. Its shocking to think that some Premiership footballers are making half a million quid a month. Their wages have actually made me stop going to football matches, i refuse to pay £50 to watch 90 minutes of football. Each fan prob ends up paying near £100 a match, including travel, ticket, programme, food, ect ect...

The art of good management is surely knowing when to tell it like it is and when not to?

Why didnt Harry go the whole hog and say to the media people .... "I've got a bunch of thicko mercenaries here who dont give a damn about Tottenham Hotspur FC, in fact, I'm only here as manager because I knew my previous club was going down the tubes and Daniel Levy came along and offered to triple my wages"...

Sorry but I cant see any positives from this statement and if anything, all it does is give the WHL boo boys a gee up to get on the players backs rather than showing their support ....It's poor management and I cant see or recall any of the other top managers saying similar ...

Not so long ago I were thinking prior to the Dublin Xmas doo, that Harry had it all under control , now I'm not so sure ... I think this weeks three games will tell us alot...

The club should educate it's staff in the history and traditions of OUR club. The staff are employees and any employer worth their salt will train it's staff to respect it's customer base & know what the customer knows & wants. We all know football is now more about business then sport so why not train the staff in business stratagies such as an united front & firm/brand loyalty ? Shimples me thinks yet us footie folk are a strange breed who demand this more than anyone so, again, it's up to the club to instill these mind-sets & make sure ALL staff are aware of their responsabilities to the fans who are the customers, but more importantly the heart, soul & lifeblood . . . . . .

Someone please tell me, if you were the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur FC would you be happy with your football manager making the above comments having been in charge of the team for a near18 months ?

Yours was a good post Vis and I'm in agreement with you and I'm sure your sentiments apply to Harry too...
Wouldnt it have been better if Harry said something along the lines of ( even if it's a load of BS ), "The players are aware the club narrowly missed out on the champs league a few seasons back and are determined to do it this time round. They all know Tottenham Hotspur is a massive club and they all know about it's history ..They want to be the best Tottenham Hotspur team of recent times , this I can assure you"....

Power of positive thinking and all that and knock those negative vibes on the head Harry, thats all I'm saying .

Spot on Arnie. As the chairs representative 'arry should be giving it the ole, " We try our best. We have been close. Myself & other staff members understand what this means to the fans, who are our club, and know the traditions et al and we strive to continue towards these aims". Oh ffs, me a socialist, spouting management bullshit. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh someone find me some Marx & Mao to read . . . . . .

All managers talk bullshit but then theres positive bullshit and negative bullshit .... Harry's comments are negative, a bit like that man in the raincoat comments about Spurs before Levy booted him out ..

Do we think todays Man Utd players are not made to be aware of the their past greats such as Bobby Charlton , George Best , Eric Cantona ? Liverpool players dont know about Ian Rush , Kenny Dalgleish and Fergie or Rafa would come out with something similar to Harry's comment ? Wasnt so long ago we held our 125th year celebration and many of the current squad were there when the legends were paraded ...

I don't always believe what Arry says. After all, for weeks he told everyone he had no intention of buying Crouch. How's that for bullshit? lol. No, Arry is the same as everyone else little lies escape his lips now and then. Anyone who says they have never lied is a liar. That includes Arry. After all he's only human. I don't think you have to be on the training ground to have an opinion on what he says. After all he said it to the press not on the training ground. You also don't have to be on the training ground to know there has been something going on between Arry and Pav. We don't know exactly what but if the reports about Pav having a go at Arry in the papers are true then its obvious there has been conflict between them. I don't think Arry should be defended blindly. He is the same as the rest of us, fallable. He isn't a god to be worshipped. He is human, and as such is apt to make human errors.

The point is baz that as manager of spurs we have to trust the path he is leading us on, otherwise we are back in the wilderness years when lets face it ! only jol gave us hope, later on in those years.

When it comes to managers we should have replaced like for like, when bill nic vacated we should really have gone for experience and not o,neill, when burkinshaw left we never really replaced him ! thats the problem now between us and the goons, they replaced winners with winners, they may have hit lucky but the truth is we didnt, and the rivalry between the clubs that was so close in bill nics days were given up by P*ss poor managers.

But to get back to harry ! he is a good manager ! he has his own ideas and i suspect he relies on certain player personalities to do it for him on the field, pav must be a nuisance to him because he does have ability and probably an arrogance ? perhaps its that arrogance that harry despises ?

But harry is a clever manager, we wont ever be where ramos or gross , hoddle or ardiles, or francis took us within the realms of relegation under harry......... we will always be there or thereabouts (or so i suspect ) near to the top of the prem,, whether its the very top we just dont know.............let the story unfurl and lets all get behind the bloke.
