Spurs release first image of Olympic Stadium plans
LONDON (AP): Tottenham released the first image
Monday of the proposed 60,000-seat venue the club hopes to build on the
site of London's Olympic Stadium. Tottenham is bidding with
American sports and entertainment giant AEG against Premier League rival
West Ham for the right to move onto the site after the 2012 London
Games. A decision is expected later this week. Tottenham's plans
have been criticized because the 537 million-pound ($867 million)
Olympic Stadium would be largely dismantled to build a facility without a
running track, making it more suitable for football. This
is an undated computer generated handout image released Monday Feb. 7
2011 by Vero Communications of the proposed 60,000 capacity football
stadium that would sit in the heart of the Olympic Island site if Spurs /
AEG become the successful bidder with the Olympic Park Legacy Company.

West Ham vice chairman
Karren Brady, whose club would retain the track, claimed it would be a
"corporate crime to bring the bulldozers in." Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said his club would retain parts of the stadium totaling about 420 million pounds. "Accusations
that we would 'demolish' 500 million pounds of stadium are hugely
inaccurate and highly irresponsible," Levy said Monday in a statement. "Two-thirds
of the Olympic Stadium, under the original legacy plan, was to be
dismantled - it was not designed to be a permanent structure. Recent
scare-mongering conveniently forgets this fact." Tottenham's
design plans are a near replica of the stadium that the club had
initially hoped to build on its current White Hart Lane site. Spurs intend to provide an athletics legacy for the Olympics by refurbishing the aging Crystal Palace venue in south London.

TV interview I've watched him say it "That is absolutely dead in the water, we have made it very clear that the current stadium proposals at Tottenham are not viable, so it it something we will not be able to proceed with".

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has insisted that the club
have now abandoned any plans to rebuild on the current site of White
Hart Lane, revealing that if a deal for the Olympic site falls through
then new plans must be made.
Spurs are currently bidding alongside West Ham to become the
tenants of the Olympic stadium in Stratford, East London. Both clubs
submitted their plans to a panel before the deadline just weeks ago,
with a decision about which club will be awarded the stadium currently
pending.
Tottenham had arranged for planning permission with the
local council for the Northumberland Development Project, but the
financial outlay of such a venture means Spurs longer consider it a
viable option.
"That is absolutely dead in the water," Levy told
Sky Sports. "We have made it clear that the current stadium proposals at
Tottenham are not viable so that is not something we are able to
proceed with.
"At the moment we do not have an alternative."
Tottenham
and West Ham have been locked in a bitter tussle for the rights to take
over the venue, with the Hammers’ vice-chairman Karren Brady deeming
their rivals’ bid a “corporate crime”.
"I want to deal with facts
and the original stadium was always going to be demolished," Levy
stated in response to Brady’s accusations.
“We are proposing one
of the most advanced, state-of-the-art stadiums in Europe that will
deliver an exceptional spectator experience.
"Fans will be closer
to the pitch than at any other comparable size stadium in the UK, while
its acoustic design will ensure that the noise from spectators remains
within the stadium.
"Accusations that we would 'demolish'
£500million of stadium are hugely inaccurate and highly irresponsible
and I want to be very clear on this issue.
"Our proposal will
retain around £420million worth of the Olympic Stadium, and we will
re-use or recycle the £80million that will be dismantled with zero
landfill.
"It is also important to remember that two thirds of
the Olympic Stadium, under the original legacy plan, was to be
dismantled - it was not designed to be a permanent structure. Recent
scaremongering conveniently forgets this fact.”

Re: That's it, is it?
I think too many people are seeing something sinister in levy,s intentions jim ! you have to look at the bigger picture, for a start the potential of spurs really fulfilling that (big club) pretention.
I remember talking to west ham fans in my later years of employment, i often used to hear how we "thought we were a big club " the more sensible statements i used to remember were that we "had the potential of being a big club" well i always thought we were a (big club) until the constant domination of the top 4 premiership clubs hit home the truth.
In the old days of division one we were a major player in deciding where the better players went, now a players wages will determine where they go, and where are we in the wages table ? we have to have a ceiling to survive.
I think the fan base potential has to be realised and that is where i am coming from in this ongoing debate, get a stadium that will hold 60,000 without breaking the club financially is ok in my book.
Wherever we go we will always be tottenham hotspur.

The olympic commitee were going to dismantle the stadium and reduce capacity to 25,000 anyway, THFC have said we would help in the regeneration of crystal palace the true home of Biristh athletics
we have been nothing but transparent throughtout no hidden agendas and we have put inplace a plusable package that makes sense , all westham have done is slag us of in public and lowred the tone, brady & westham dont have the clout to offer what we off as a club, if westham get it i will be very supprised indeed
can you imagine it , david sullivan sat there in the olympic stadium dressed like a communist waving to his fans wearing that hammer & sickle hat, he looks a total pratt if you ask me .
