Jose Mourinho has asked the LFP (Spanish Professional Football League) to move forward their Liga clash with Sporting to ensure his Real Madrid players are given an additional rest day before they meet Tottenham in the Champions League, according to the Spanish press.
The Portuguese coach is concerned with time constraints as the match in Gijon, scheduled for Saturday April 2, means his squad will have just 48 hours to prepare for the quarter-final against Spurs on April 5.
AS reports that the former Inter boss wants the league encounter to be played on Friday, April 1, to offer ample time for Champions League duty.
The LFP have welcomed fixture changes to accommodate Spanish clubs involved in Europe in the past, and the feeling in Madrid is they will make allowances and consider Mourinho's request.
Sporting president Manuel Vega-Arango made it clear he would not oppose Mourinho demands if the LFP give the green light for a fixture reshuffle, despite the 'Special One' being at odds with coach Manuel Preciado following disagreements earlier this term.
"We will make it easy for Real Madrid in this matter," Arango said.
"We would not make any attempts to impede."
Unless the LFP officially confirm a date change, the game will take place at the Bernabeu on April 2.
