I'm still not convinced with Adabayor. Too often (in my opinion I have to point out) he looks as though there are more important things then playing for Spurs. 18 goals last season was a good return but I need to see at least that amount again this season for me to be fully decided that his heart belongs to The Lane and not just close to his ever expanding bank account . . . .

hes the best we got. could do with getting rid of defoe and getting a better forward player in.

berbatov would fit in with the way we play

Defoe has 4 goals so far and has lead the line well. He isn't a "lone striker" but has done OK so far. If he was as greedy as you say would he have gone straight to Caulker yesterday and celebrated Caulker scoring? I need to see a lot more commitment from Adabayor before I hold him in the same esteem as I do Defoe . . . . .

vis we been averge at home because the ball dont stay up the other end, ball goes to defoe and its either offside or a pot shot.

hes had the most shots in the league and 4 goals.
hes 30 so its all down hill from here.
robbie keane at hes peak was better then defoe

    Hardly!

    If I may. Smile

JD has done decent in the lone striker role, a role most said he couldn't do but I have to agree with Loughtan that we're turning over possession way to much due to his desire to score a goal.

At times against the Villa as he pursued his 200th goal I couldn't help thinking it were, glory boy shooting versus the good of the team!

I can assure you Ion , there are plenty others that feel the same .

I am as aware of his weaknesses as anyone else but what p*sses me off is the insistence on focussing on his negatives whilst ignoring his positives. It is constant.

The same happens with Jenas and the same is now occurring with Walker. I know of no other set of fans that spend so much time and effort hating their own players and it sickens me quite frankly.

He made our first goal with quality control and a swift shot but did he get credit? No, all we get is 'we were lucky it hit Caulker.' Who gives a sh*t, he made the luck by creating the chance but gets sweet FA credit for it.

I'm on record as stating that he needs to be upgraded but, until he is, he's a Spurs player, and a valuable on at that, so should get credit and support for the good he does rather than just the blinkered focus on all things negative that is his lot with far too many of our so called 'fans.'

I can accept criticism when it is balanced, he seems to get precious little of that.

But then we do like to pick out our scapegoats at Spurs, always have.

I don't think it's picking out scapegoats ion and from what I have seen we are not the only supporters who comment on the negatives of players. Man City, Liverpool and Man u all do the same from what I have seen. End of the day players take positive comments so why should they not accept negative ones. I don't think anyone has been really nasty to Defoe on here. Just pointing out that he has failings which we all know anyway. how does what we say on here affect the player? He hardly comes on here does he? He would more likely go on Twitter or Facebook and he will certainly read plenty of negative comments on those SNS. He will also see plenty of positive comments too. On the facebook pages I go on there is much the same view from some ion. There are also a lot who like him.

That's how I see it too, Baz . It's a match thread with the lads here chatting about the positives as well as the negatives . I only find it annoying when it gets abusive towards a player or manager .

When I look at Defoe's career I think he could've done better if he worked more on his awareness of those around him. For me , the game at Old Trafford was one of his best ever games in a Spurs shirt , a game he didn't score a goal!

Much the same as people at games Arnie. I don't think I have ever stood or sat in the crowd where everyone around agreed wholeheartedly with each other. You will get the same people week in week out moaning about the same players. That's football.

I have to agree with Ion here. Let's be honest like him or tolerate him Defoe is what we have had up front to start the season with. A run of games that has seen us unbeaten since the opener. So credit were it is due for Defoe. I like him, so that's that out the way lol. In fact I prefer him to Adabayor. I have never seen Defoe as a "lone striker" type but he has helped us start the season on a reasonably steady footing. More someone who thrives off a partner, or more so off a player in the hole. As yet Dempsey hasn't fully settled into the team but could well be that sort of player to assist Defoe's game. Yes Defoe can be more like a cricketer at times and more interested in his own stats, but that has always been his game. He has been an able servant for the club over the years. Maybe he should score more and he certainly should not be caught offside as often as he is but to knock him is to take away what he does bring to the team which is uncertainty in the opposistion defence about what he may do and this can benefit other Spurs players in a game. I do agree that Adabayor seems more able to hold the ball up and bring in other players with a deft touch but at times this affects one of our most potent weapons. The speed of our counter-attacks. I hope Defoe stays and I hope he forges good goal scoring partnerships with the likes of Adabayor & Dempsey and I won't overly criticise him because if nothing else you can see he loves our club . . . ..

Not really ion, my lovable old adversary ! lol.
Defoe is ok, i had great faith in him for many a year and thought he would strike it rich goal wise at some time.
I just dont know ion why he doesnt score more ? its a puzzle to me because the bloke has so much skill, control, and pace, ????? as i said its a puzzle.
Maybe he will strike it big time this season, as its early days yet.
