Real Madrid boss is world's best paid football manager according to list that suggests reputation doesn't always translate into cash

LAST UPDATED AT 11:32 ON Thu 29 Nov 2012

REAL MADRID'S Jose Mourinho is the highest paid football manager in the world while Sir Alex Ferguson, who has just celebrated 26 years at Manchester United, is the best paid football boss in Britain, according to a new ranking.

The list of the Top 30 managers in the world, ranked by pay packets rather than results, was compiled by a Brazilian sports marketing company and published in the Daily Mail today.

It reveals that while Roy Hodgson may have acquired plenty of kudos when he signed on as England manager, his Three Lions salary puts him at only No. 30 in the world.

It's no great surprise that Mourinho, the former Chelsea boss who reportedly earns £12.3 million a year at Real Madrid, is top of the ranking. But Ferguson, whose £7.6 million pay packet puts him at No. 4 worldwide, might want to talks to his agent about the £10.9 million earned by Carlo Ancelotti at Paris Saint-Germain (No. 2) and the £8.7 million bagged by Marcelo Lippi at Chinese club Guangzhou (No. 3).

The highest paid international manager on the list is former England boss Fabio Capello, whose "disastrous spell" in charge of England did nothing to dissuade Russia from paying him £6.3 million a year. Four straight wins in qualification for the 2014 World Cup suggest the Italian is "at least earning his wage", says the Mail.

Back on home turf, the list reveals that Harry Redknapp is pulling in a healthy £3.2 million in his new job at Queens Park Rangers which puts him at No. 14 on the well-heeled list. His successor at Tottenham Hotspur, Andre Villas-Boas, is one place ahead of him at No. 13, thanks to a £3.6 million pay packet.
