A Beast At The lane? Empty A Beast At The lane?

Post by BazSpur Wed Jun 23 2010, 06:12

    'THE BEAST' is back...

An interesting story today, has a former Arsenal
striker linked with a move to White Hart Lane. One Julio Baptista (of
4-Goal-Carling-Cup fame) is being touted as a possible interest of our
    faithful 'Wheeler-Dealer' manager.

    The former Sevilla and Real
Madrid forward has spent the last 2 seasons at Roma in Serie A with
mixed fortunes. In his first season 'The Beast' managed a respectable 11
goals in 36 games. Just short of 1 in 3, which is good for a player who
generally came off the bench and played as a 'link up man' as opposed
to an out and out striker. However, last season saw him drop further
down the pecking order which meant less games and a lot less goals. Just
    4 for the whole season.

The price tag is said to be about £4m
which, for a 28 year old who has played 50 times for Brazil, is pretty
cheap it must be said. That would suggest that his introduction to the
squad wouldn`t be seen as 'marquee' and we could happily still expect to
see someone of the calibre of Diego Forlan or Luis Fabiano follow him
    up Bill Nicholson Way.

As for whether we need (want) a player
like this is open for debate. I would expect that a lot of fans would be
apprehensive of this signing due to the players former ties with the
ones down the road and possibly also due to his lack of improvement
since he left the Emirates. However, this is the very same fella that
scored 39 goals in 62 games for Sevilla and given the likely departure
of Robbie Keane, for £4m this could be one of those 'Arry' signings that
make the rest of the country say 'Now why didn`t I think of that?'.
