Okay, I know some people will moan and groan about this story, but in case you haven`t noticed, it could actually happen.
I
think this is the third article relating to the possibility that Becks
could join us, but the reality is that this is big news and far from the
"non Story" some slated this as a week or two ago, it looks ever more
likely it could happen and what really are the negatives here?
Of
course he is 35 and perhaps not the quickest player ever to lace a pair
of boots, but then again he never was. Perhaps he is an over hyped
player you don`t want over here, but honestly what are the negatives
that would make this a bad move for Tottenham Hotspur, because I really
can`t think of many or in fact any.
As I wrote in a previous
article on this very subject, do we really expect Beckham to demand a
starting place or for Harry to pick him because it might sell a few
extra shirts? Quite frankly that is a little insulting to our manager,
club and the player himself, who has always been honest and backed
himself to perform and usually does. Can we really imagine Beckham
throwing his toys out of the pram because he doesn`t get to start,
finish or even play any part in games?
I always get the
impression that Beckham is pretty understated in and around players and
he may be Golden Balls, but is certainly no Billy big B****cks in the
dressing room. A great trainer and great influence of so many of our
young players. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but we have brought back
John Bostock and Andros Townsend from loans in the last week or so, plus
we already have Dean Parrett, what influence could he have on these and
other kids, not to mention those already in the first team squad.
Beckham
may not play a game and be only a peripheral on pitch influence, but
his off field influence could be priceless if he can rub some of his
magic on a youngster and focus his mind to be bigger and better.
It
is claimed Beckham would earn £1.5m for a potential 3 month stay with
Spurs, but that would be chicken feed if it gave our squad a boost and
the youngsters the vision and inspiration to progress and in the worst
case scenario, his wages would be comfortably paid for in shirt sales
and Beckham merchandise here and abroad, so what is the problem???
