Tottenham accept £6m Birmingham bid for Robbie Keane

Birmingham have had a £6m bid for Robbie Keane accepted by Tottenham, BBC Sport understands.

The 30-year-old Republic of Ireland striker has been given permission to hold talks with City, although he is yet to discuss personal terms.

City have agreed to pay Spurs an initial £4m with an extra £2m coming via various add-ons in the deal.

Keane has found his chances limited at White Hart Lane this season, making 11 of his 13 appearances as a substitute.

Blues boss Alex McLeish has prioritised bolstering his forward line in the January transfer window with his current set of attackers struggling to find the net.

Only Wigan have scored fewer than Birmingham's 20 Premier League goals this term.

Midfielder Craig Gardner is the club's top-scorer with five goals while strikers Nikola Zigic, Kevin Phillips and Cameron Jerome have contributed a meagre eight goals between them.

Keane, who re-signed for Tottenham in February 2009, just six months after leaving the north London club for Liverpool, spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic.

West Ham have also been interested in signing Keane.

If true I wish him well, unless it's against us ! ! ! He's been a good servent for the club. I know the Scouse move soured his reputation for a lot of fans but the partnership he had with Berbatov was one of the best we have had at Spurs for a good few years . . . . . .

I cant see us bringing in anyone even if Keanes move fiannly goes through

2 weeks to go in the window and already i got this horrible gut feeling we will leave it to the last minute and be left short for the remainder of the season.

its the Tottenham way, we've always done it that way , and will continue to do it that way, so don't expect suarez or anyone its not going to happen IMO

Birmingham are in pole position to sign Keane after agreeing a fee in the region of £6million with Spurs for the Republic of Irelandinternational.

However, West Ham are refusing to give up their pursuit of Keane after seeing a loan bid rejected by Spurs with Harry Redknapp preferring a permanent deal for the former Wolves and Liverpool man.

West Ham are now thought to be ready to make a permanent offer for Keane as they look to win the race for the striker's services

Keane is thought to be reluctant to leave London and West Ham are hoping this could boost their chances of luring the 30-year-old to Upton Park.

Despite doubts over Avram Grant's future at West Ham, the club are ready to push forward with a move for Keane with managerial target Martin O'Neill thought to be keen on bringing in the forward if he does take charge.

Birmingham have baulked at the wage demands of Tottenham striker Robbie Keane , throwing a move to St. Andrews into doubt.
The two sides agreed a £6-million fee for the Republic of Ireland striker at the end of last week.

But according to the Mirror, the 30-year-old is demanding a raise from his current £65,000-a-week contract at Spurs.

"Robbie Keane is at early stages. We'll see what happens," was all Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was saying.
