Maybe he's having his frown removed ? I'm with you Lought and the strong 2nd XI. Don't think we will see too many 1st teamers on the bench either. All being saved for Foolham & BMJ. A poijnt from this game would be a good result for me but of course I will hope for the win . . . . .

Assuming the Russians are able and willing to field their strongest line up this evening I think you will do very well to come away with anything from the tie. They have a decent record at home on European nights and I guess it will be getting down to freezing come kick off time

William Gallas and Steven Pienaar will make their first Tottenham appearances of the season in Thursday's Europa League game against Rubin Kazan.

Spurs are unbeaten in Group A with seven points and will guarantee a place in the last 32 with a win.

Scott Parker, Sandro, Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have been left in London, but Jermain Defoe and Sebastien Bassong have travelled to Russia.

Manager Harry Redknapp has not travelled after routine heart surgery.

Pienaar is determined to win back a place in the Tottenham first team after making just 12 appearances since his move to White Hart Lane.

The South Africa midfielder suffered concussion after clashing heads with team-mate Bongani Khumalo in February and a groin problem slowed his progress down towards the end of last season.

Pienaar admits his time out was the worst of his career, but he now says he is fully fit and is ready to prove to the Spurs management that he deserves a place in the first team.

He said: "It's been the most difficult period of my career. When you join a new team, you want to start fully fit but I got injured quite early and it slowed down my progress.

"Before the operation we thought we would wait and see how the groin injury developed but it just got worse.

"I had the operation, things were going well, but then I had two setbacks. Sometimes when you try to get back early, that happens.

"But I'm over the nightmare now so hopefully I can get some minutes."

Assistant manager Kevin Bond, who will take charge of the team in Redknapp's absence, insists the club are not treating the Europa League with contempt by fielding a second-string side and even has his sights set on winning the competition.

"Our priority for the coming season has to be to try to try to qualify for the Champions League, at least, but we would also like to win some silverware for the club," Bond said.

"We would like to win a trophy for ourselves and for the supporters if possible and the Europa League is an opportunity for us to do that so we will not be disrespecting the competition and bringing out any second-rate players.

"We will play a side that we think can win in every game we play and we have brought a strong squad with us."

Provisional squad: Gomes, Cudicini, Gallas, Bassong, Waller-Lassen, Stewart, Barthram, Livermore, Townsend, Pienaar, Fredericks, Carroll, Nicholson, Parrett, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Falque, Kane, Lancaster, Pritchard.

Hello Jim. I make you right about Lennon needing games & confidence. The squad shows neither he or BAE are in Russia but for me this should have been a game he was involved in . . . .
