Nice to see we are back on track after a couple of days away. This really is, to me at least, a must win game if we are serious about being title contenders/top four . . . . .

Well if this report is true we could be without Adebayour . . ..

    Newcastle v Tottenham

    By Guy Mowbray
BBC Match of the Day commentator

    TEAM NEWS

Newcastle pair Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye are fit for Sunday's game despite reportedly suffering injuries on international duty.

Danny Guthrie and Sammy Ameobi are doubts with respective groin and hamstring problems.

Tottenham's Vedran Corluka and Niko Kranjcar have been ruled out with foot and thigh injuries respectively.

There are doubts over Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring), Aaron Lennon (groin) and Sandro (calf).

    MATCH PREVIEW

This should be a cracker as two of the most in-form teams in the country meet at St James' Park, with both clubs having a reputation for attacking, "devil may care" football.

That said, this is a Newcastle that isn't quite so gung ho about its business these days, having conceded fewer goals than any other team in the Premier League this season.
Alan Pardew's attention to defensive detail is one of the key factors behind the Toon's impressive unbeaten start, with only Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup scoring more than one goal against them in a game.

Wolves should have done a fortnight ago, but the luck with refereeing decisions that Newcastle enjoyed at Molineux shouldn't detract from their best start to a season since 1994.

Spurs come north looking for a fifth league win in a row, with their 2-1 defeat of Arsenal last time out providing one of the most entertaining games of the season so far. The last time they completed a nap hand of victories was in their march to a Champions League place in the spring of 2010, with the run ending in the north east at Sunderland.

Newcastle hasn't been any kinder to them in recent years. Aaron Lennon's late equaliser in this fixture in January won Spurs their only point in their last five league games on Tyneside.

I would think Harry Redknapp would be pleased enough with another point from the place he could have gone to in 2008. The same goes for Pardew against one of his old clubs. How many remember his four Intertoto Cup games for Spurs in 1995?

    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head
    • Tottenham haven't won on their last five league visits to St James' Park.
    • The teams shared a thrilling 4-4 draw on the only other occasion they have met on 16 October - that was also at St James' Park, back in 1954, and the line-ups that day included Jackie Milburn and Bill Nicholson.

    Newcastle
    • Newcastle are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League matches - their longest such run since 1997.
    • The Magpies have conceded just four goals in this season's Premier League, the fewest in the top flight.
    • Newcastle have more than twice as many points as they had at this stage last season (15:7).
    • Demba Ba has scored four goals in his last two Premier League matches.

    Tottenham
    • After losing their first two league matches, Tottenham have won their last four.
    • Tottenham have won their last two Premier League away matches. They have not won three in a row on their travels since December 2004.
    • Spurs are the only side in the top half of the table not to have drawn a match this season. Bolton are the only other club without a draw.
    • Ledley King could make his 300th start for Tottenham. Spurs are unbeaten with him in the side this season (four wins). They have lost both matches where he has been absent. King has been on the winning side in his last eight Premier League matches.

Fuk me the Barcodes are negative. The new Wimbledon lol. Stone cold penelty, well taken by VDV. Kaboul Vs Ba is one hell of a good contest. King for Bassong ? Do me a favour. Bale falls over to easy & Defoe for VDV is needed (IMHO). Next goal wins it. Far from a classic but the score so far does me, oh yeah . . . .

    Newcastle 2 - 2 Tottenham

Match Thread Vs Newcastle United - Page 2 _56092450_56092449
It was a feisty Premier League match at St James' Park

Shola Ameobi came off the bench to score as Newcastle maintained their unbeaten start to the season by drawing with Tottenham.

Rafael van der Vaart opened the scoring from the spot after Steven Taylor was judged to have brought down Emmanuel Adebayor.

Demba Ba equalised for Newcastle from close range before substitute Jermain Defoe fired in low to put Spurs ahead.

But Ameobi won a point for Newcastle when he struck in from the angle.

It was an outstanding strike by the substitute who was played in with a cute flick from Magpies playmaker Yohan Cabaye.

The equaliser came four minutes from normal time although both the home side and the visitors could have take away all three points in a frenetic final five minutes.

Defoe twice had a chance to score, but his first shot was brilliantly blocked by Steven Taylor before the follow-up was palmed away by Tim Krul.

And in stoppage time, Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini had a chance to become a hero but he fired wide after turning inside the six-yard area.

The finale was in stark contrast to a rather subdued first half during which Newcastle were content to contain the visitors.

The home side's disciplined approach was working a treat until five minutes before half-time, when they made an error.

Cabaye had the ball poked from his possession by Jake Livermore and Adebayor ran on to the loose ball before he was clipped by Taylor in the area.

Referee Lee Probert looked at his linesman for guidance before pointing to the spot.

The Magpies ditched their conservative tactics after the break and three minutes into the half they were level.

Argentine Gutierrez left Luka Modric sleeping on the left and got down to the by-line before dinking the ball into the area which was slid in by Ba. It was the fifth goal in three games for the Senegal international.

However, Spurs, free from their chains, were now also able to play their game.

Adebayor was twice unlucky not to put his side back in front. He first screwed a shot an inch wide before Krul cleared just as the Togo striker was about to shoot.

However, a minute later they finally scored the second when Defoe spun in a flash to drill a low strike past the Dutch goalkeeper.

Alan Pardew's men were now 22 minutes from losing their unbeaten record.

Both Tiote and Ryan Taylor went close when their long-range strikes were saved Brad Friedel but the American stopper had no chance of saving Ameobi's strike.

The home-grown striker picked up quick ball from Cabaye and rifled his effort low and hard into the bottom left corner of Friedel's goal.

The Magpies remain in fourth while Spurs move up to sixth in the Premier League table.

I'm f*cked off, Arry yet again played 451 until he too realised it wasn't working. Here's a tip for you Arry. IT DOESN'T WORK. Why keep accomodating VDV in a system that does not work for us? It was only when VDV went off and Defoe came on that we looked capable of winning the game even then we f*cked up. I agree with Vis, it was a game we should have won. Ade and Defoe should play up front from the start, that way we'll have a chance. I bet Billy Nick is turning in his grave at Arry's tactics. Wait for Redknapp to blame the Internationals. Rant Over.

Exactly Baz we play 5 midfield and then play over them with the lump up to the front man. Thought we would stop that when Crouch went but no we're still at it. Mind you it worked for Defoe but it wasn't a pass, just a lump and Defoe did really well to turn it into a goal. Like you totally p*ssed off.
